Council Room Monday September 5th 1870 City Council met pursuant to adjournment His Honor Leander Brown Mayor in the Chair Roll called, and the following named Aldermen answered to their names Alderman Bennett, Baker, Dolan, Ranes, Benschke and Fox
Minutes for August 1st were read and adopted
Report of the City Sexton for the month of August last was presented and read showing 13 deaths, 6 Adults and Seven Children.
Alderman Baker offered the following. 1st Be it Ordained by the Council of the City of Austin that the sum of Five hundred dollars or as much as is necessary be appropriated to purchase a suitable piece of ground adjacent to the City for the purpose of erecting a City Hospital 2. That a Committee of three be appointed by the Mayor to select a suitable site for the above purpose ascertain the lowest price thereof, and report to the next meeting of the City Council.
On motion which motion was seconded, was passed to its first, second and third reading, and was passed by a unanimous Vote. On motion seconded and Carried, his honor the Mayor was added to the Committee and Alderman Ranes, Fox and Bennett were appointed the Committee contemplated in the above Ordinance.
Resolved that the Market House [illegible] Committee be requested to take into consideration the propriety of appointing a City Surveyor and having certain Correct flood grades established at suitable points in the City for the government of all who shall hereafter erect buildings in Austin, and draft a Suitable Ordinance in respect to the subject to be introduced into the next meeting. Adopted.
Alderman Ranes was excused from further attendance during the present session of the Board.

Resolved that the Assessor and Collector of the City of Austin be Authorized to give S M Stevenson and T J Duffau Credit on the assess -ment of 1871 for the money they have expended in paving the gutter fronting their house on Hickory Street
Resolved that the Mayor be requested to appoint a suitable person to act as City Attorney for the present; Salary as fixed in the Ordinance The following appropriations on motion Seconded, the Roll called, the appropriations was made by a unanimous vote.
