Council Rooms Monday December the 8th 1876 City Council met pursuant to adjournment His Honor Leander Brown Mayor in the Chair; Roll called, and the following Named Alderman, answered to their Names Namely Aldermen Bensitell; Balles, Palvie; Raven, Ronselle and Fox Minutes of [illegible] of November. Read and adopted Finance Committee reported on the Annual and Quarterly report by the Honer the Mayor; the City Assessor and Collector and Treasurer, the same were examined and found Correct Report by the City Sexton for the Month of November had was read showing Ten deaths Petition from 22 Citizens in the North east part of the City was read praying for Certain improvements and grading on Streets and was on motion, referred to the Street Committee Alderman Baltee read and introduced the following Ordinance about the creation of a City Surveyor Be it Ordained by the City Council of the City of Austin Sec 1. who shall be appointed by the Mayor and with the consent of the City Council, who shall hold his office for the term of one year, unless sooner removed by the City Council and whose pay shall depend upon the fees connected with the discharge of his Official duties
2° It shall be the duty of any person or persons, who shall hereafter enclose any lot or lots within the Corporate limits of the City of Austin, to have the same Surveyed by the City Surveyor and the Corners of the said lot or lots correctly established, for which service the owner of said lot shall pay to the City Surveyor a reasonable Compensation for the said service, said Compensation not to exceed fifty cents for each Corner established by the said Surveyor
3° Any person who shall fail to comply with the provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a Misdemeanor, and upon Conviction therefor Shall pay a fine of not less than fifty dollars and Shall moreover forfeit to the City any improvement or property he or she may erect or cause to be erected upon that portions of the lot or lots which shall prove to be incorrectly enclosed.
It was moved and seconded that the Ordinance be passed to its first reading, Rules were suspended and the Ordinance read the second time, Rules further suspended and said Ordinance put upon its final passage. Said Ordinance was adopted and motion Carried by a unanimous Vote
Alderman Bather thus introduced the following resolution
Resolved that the Mayor be requested to ascertain and point out to the City Surveyor one or more fixed initial point, within the City of Austin which are recognized to be correct, and upon which the City Surveyor shall base all his work. Resolution was seconded, and carried by a unanimous Vote

An Ordinance Regulating the right to Keep and bear Arms. Sec 1 Be it Ordained by the City Council of the City of Austin. That if any person shall go into any Church or religious assembly, any School room or other place where persons are assembled for educational, literary or scientific purposes, or into a Ball room, Social party or other social gathering, Composed of ladies and gentle men, or to any election precinct on the day or days of any election, where any portion of the people of this City are collected to Vote at any election, or to any other place where people may be assembled to muster or to perform any other public duty, or any other public assembly, and shall have about his person a bowie knife, dirk, or butcher knife or fire arms, whether known as Six shooters, guns or pistol of any kind, such person so offending shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction thereof shall be fined in a sum not less than twenty five or more than One hundred dollars at the discretion of the Court or jury trying the same, and provided further that this Ordinance shall not apply to any person or persons whose duty it is to bear Arms on such occasions in discharge of duties imposed by law. 2d That this Ordinance take effect and be in force in thirty days from the passage thereof It was moved and seconded that this Ordinance be read, the rules were suspended and the Ordinance read the second time, the rules were further suspended, and the Ordinance put on to final passage, It was passed by a unanimous Vote.

The Petitions of Sundry Citizens of the City of Austin were presented, read and referred to the Stand Committee. I was introduced that it be Resolved that the City Council is ready to entertain any responsible proposition in reference to the purchase of a Fire Engine which may come in writing and in definite terms; which was seconded & carried...
Resolved that the Mayor be required to act in accordance with the resolutions passed by a Meeting of the Citizens of Austin and Travis County held on Saturday November 3d and that he request the Agent of the Ohio Bridge Company to send their Engineer as soon as practicable to make the necessary Survey; and the to Mayor elect an Engineer or Surveyor to assist in said Survey, on the part of the City. — Resolved that the Mayor be requested to submit the name of one Active efficient person to the Office of City Recorder, Assessor and Collector at the regular meeting in January.
