41 Call Meeting. of February, 1st 1859. at 7 Oclock P.M. City Council met pursuant to a special call of His Honor Leander Brown Mayor who was Roll called and the following names Alderman answered to their names, Alderman Brownell, Baker, Palan, Rawson, Democlice and Fox. Minutes for January 2nd being read, was correct and adopted. Appropriations to pay the following debts Viz. Mayors Salary quarter ending January 31. 125.00 Rent of Mayors Office Room 3 Months 45.00 Assessor and Collector, up to January 31 125.00 Marshall for the Month of January 50.00 W B Stilz, Police Month of January 40.00 [illegible] [illegible] do for the Month of January 40.00 H H [illegible] do for the Month of January 40.00 [illegible] [illegible] do do 40.00 Assis Carrier ton, care of the Engine 6.00 The Sheriff for feeding Prisoners 75.00 Rosamond, Sc 23.75 [illegible] & [illegible] 22.50 Removing Dead Animals 13.75 Sutor & [illegible] 10.50 Honest [illegible] building Bridge 7.25 N Cags [illegible] 25.00 C J Revere 25.00 Pay of Alderman 28.00 Baker & Rosamond 2.50 Expenses of Bridge 50.00 $784.25 The above appropriations being voted for On motion seconded and carried the Roll being Called the appropriation was made by a Unanimous Vote Resolved that in dissolving our connection with His Honor Leander Brown as Mayor of Austin, we desire to place on record our appreciation of his long and faithful services, and for the usage, Courtesy and Kindness we have experienced at his hands; and we wish him future success and

43 By the name and by the Authority Of the State of Texas To all to whom these Presents shall come Greeting Know Ye that I C. S. Davis Governor of the State of Texas, reposing special trust and full confidence in the loyalty, integrity and ability of Homer H. Gleason by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Laws of said State, constitute and appoint him the said Homer H. Gleason Mayor of the the City of Austin Travis County in said State of Texas, giving and hereby granting to him the said Gleason all the rights privileges and emoluments appertaining to said office In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto set my name and caused the Great Seal of the State to be affixed at the City of Austin the 31st day of January One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy one, and the Independence of Texas the Thirty fifth C.S.
