West Pecan Street Repair Request

Brief Meeting: The Austin City Council convened on April 3, 1871, with six of seven aldermen present, then immediately adjourned until April 6th.

Road Conditions Crisis: Residents petitioned the council to grade and pave West Pecan Street, describing the roadway from Congress Avenue to Shoal Creek as "almost impassable."

Community Action: Multiple property owners along West Pecan Street formally requested the council take action through ordinance or other means to improve the deteriorating street conditions.

61 City Council Room, Austin, April 03, 1871 The City Council met pursuant to adjournment. Present: His Honor, the Mayor, Aldermen: Thos. Adams, J. Bremond, J. L. Dees, E. Eggleton, S. Messner, J. H. Robinson; -- Absent: Henry Brashear. On motion of Aldermen S. Messner, the Council adjourned until April 6th, 1874 J. P. Eggleton, Recorder. Copy of Petition of C. S. West & alies for grading &C. West Pecan street. Austin, March 2nd 1874 To the Hon. the Mayor & Council of the City of Austin, Texas. The Petition of the citizens & Property holders of the city residing on West Pecan street, respectfully calls your attention to the condition of the street, to wit, on said street, from its intersection with Congress Avenue to the neighborhood of Shoal Creek, -- as not whether they are almost impassable, they ask that the Council by ordinance or otherwise will take the proper steps to grade and pave said street.
