103 City Council Room Austin, Sept 4, 1871 The City Council met according to adjournment. Present, - His Honor, the Mayor. " Aldermen Mess.rs Wm Brüggerhoff, J. L Buaas, S Mussina W Madison, J. H. Robinson Absent: Mess.rs J.L. Dromond, E.P. Eggleston, C. Wheelock. Mess.rs Thompson Bros. having given notice in writing to the Mayor of their intention to take possession of the premises now used as the Mayor's office, by the 1st day of October &c., on motion of Wm Brüggerhoff, the Mayor was requested to appoint a committee of three, himself to be a member of said committee, for the purpose of selecting another suitable location for the Mayor's Office, whereupon His Honor appointed Mess.rs S Mussina and J.H. Robinson assistant members of said committee. In consideration of the irregularities of charges for transportation of passengers in this city, Alderman Wm Brüggerhoff moved the appointment of a Committee of Three to consider the matter and report at the next meeting. Mess.rs J.L. Buaas & W. Madison were appointed on said Committee. On motion of Alderman S. Mussina, the Mayor was authorized to transfer the mule belonging to the city to Long in payment of his account against the city, for $175.00 Upon a petition of Richard Plagwood and others for a suitable lot for the erection of a col. Methodist church, Mess.rs S. Mussina, Oleary Madison and C. Wheelock were appointed a special committee to consider said petition and report at the next meeting. A protest of T. Lane against proposed impediments by the H. & T.C. R.R. Co. upon streets was referred to the street committee. On motion of Alderman Wm Brüggerhoff, a petition of Mess.rs Rees & Moore to build an iron stairway on the [illegible] to the upper story of their building on Congress Avenue, was laid over for consideration at the next meeting. Alderman J. H. Robinson offered the following resolution: Be it resolved, by the City Council of the city of Austin, That the Mayor be authorized to issue the warrants of the city for Fifteen Hundred (1500) Dollars payable January 1st, 1872, to W. D. Anderson for making the embankments on Waller road at foot of East Pecan street. The rules being suspended, the resolution passed its second and third reading and was finally adopted. Alderman J. H. Robinson then offered the following amendment to Ordinance No. 199: Be it enacted by the City Council of the city of Austin, That Ordinance No 199 be amended as follows: where the words "Mayor and Marshal" occurs therein so as to read "Mayor or Marshal". --- Page break --- 104 The rule being suspended, the amending ordinance passes its second and third reading and was finally adopted by the following vote Yeas - Aldm. J.C. Brieas, S. Muessina, Wm. Briggerhoff, J.S. Robinson Henry Madrain ; — Nays — none. The resignations of B.W. D. Butler ; city treasurer, and B.[illegible]nik city assessor & collector, were received and accepted Alderman Wm. Briggerhoff presented a petition by [illegible] and other citizens for the re-instatement of S. Marshall on the city police; and thereupon offered the motion to lay said petition on the table. A petition of the city sexton was referred to the cemetery committee. On motion of Alderman S. Muessina, the council adjourned until the next regular meeting. G.S.[illegible] Recorder.
