City Council Rooms. Austin Feb: 16th 1872. At a Called Meeting of the City Council of the City of Austin. Roll Called, the following Councilmen answered to their Names: J. L. Buaas. W. Brueggerhoff. P. Mussina. Henry Madison. J. H. Robinson. Aldermann, Mussina President of the Council. The minutes of last Meeting being read, were adopted. City Sexton Report for the month of January 1872. was read and accepted. A Petition was presented from the Merchants of the City of Austin asking a reduction of the Merchandise Tax from 1/4. of 1. per cent to 1/2. of 1. per cent. or to be in accordance with the Tax on Realestate in the City. By a vote of the [struck] City Council, the petition was laid on the Table. Petition of Mss. Rust & Moore was read and laid over to to next meeting for consideration. Petition of the Butchers of Market Hall for repairing Butcher Stalls was read and on motion of Alderman Brueggerhoff, that a special Committee be appointed to confer with the old Committee and report at the next Meeting of the Council; the Chairman appointed: W. Brueggerhoff & J. L. Buaas to act as that Committee. Petition of R. M. Castleman, praying for the removal of filth and better pro- tection from fire was read and on Motion of Alderman W. removed and that no fires be made that will endanger the property set forth in the petition. A Memorial from Col. De Gress peti- tioning the City Authorities, to change the location of the Block for the site of the school edifice about to be erected, was read and by vote of the Council, the petition was laid on the table. A Petition of Mess. Case & Turner, was read and on motion of Alderman W. Brueg- gerhoff the following Resolution was adopted: Resolved that the above Petitioners be requested to comply with the City Ordinances and that the City Marshall be instructed to see that this resolution be complied with A Petition of H. J. Sutton, petitioning the City Council to reduce the License fee for Poison Brokers in accordance with the Real Estate Brokers, was read and on motion of Alderman Robinson, the Petition was laid over for the consideration of the next Meeting of the City Council. Petition of E. H. Eggleston was read and on Motion of Wm Brueggerhoff the following Ordinance was passed: Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Austin, that the sum of Four Hundred and Seventy five/425.00 Dollars, is hereby appropriated for the purpose of purchasing a Fire Alarm Bell, to be paid in City Treasury Warrants of the City of Austin. Be it further ordained by the City Coun- cil of the City of Austin, that the Mayor is hereby authorized to order for the Washington Fire Engine Company N. T. A Petition of the City Police was pre- sented and read, and on Motion of Alderman Wm Brueggerhoff the following Ordinance was passed: Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Austin, that the Salary of the City Police, be increased from the present price of $50.00 Fifty Dollars to $60.00 Sixty Dollars per month for their services. This Ordinance to be in force and take effect from and after its passage. On Motion of Alderman J Ruaas, the Rules were suspended and the Ordinance passed to its second & third reading and on Mo- tion of Alderman Madison, the Ordinance was adopted by the following votes. Yeas: Alderman. G. L. Ruaas. Wm Brueggerhoff. J. Mussina H. Madison. J. H. Robinson. A Petition of John A Webb to erect a Four Ton Hay Scale in the City of Austin was read and on Motion of G. L. Ruaas the following Resolution was passed and adopted. Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, that the said John A. Webb be allowed to erect the said scales as set forth in the petition, and that the Chairman of the Council be requested to appoint a committee to select a location and to superintend the erection of the same. Wilson, asking the priveloge of enclosing and using of vacants Lots, lasing on the River Bank adjoining Bl: 181. was presented, and after reading of the same on Motion of Alderman J. H. Robinson the following Resolution was passed: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, that a Committee of Three, be appointed by the President of the Council to investigate the feasibility of the proposition and to report at the next Meeting of the next City Council.
