Council met pursuant to adjournment. Present: His Honor the Mayor John H. Bennu in the Chair. Aldermen: W. Bruggenhof, S. Mussina. Henry Morrison, J. H. Robinson Henry Willis. Absent: J. J. Bruan. P. H. Bolram, P. M. Michells. Alderman W. Bruggenhof offered the following Ordinance: First. Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Austin, That that the Board of Appeal be allowed $.5. days in addition to the 7 days already allowed, for services as Judges & Clerks of Election. Second. That the sum of One hundred and Twenty five Dollars Cashmoney, is hereby appropriated to defray expenses for such services, out of any money in the City Treasury, not otherwise appropriated. On Motion of Alderman Mussina the Rules were suspended, and the Ordinance after passing its second and third reading, was adopted by the following vote: - to wit: Yeas! Aldermen W. Bruggenhof. S. Mussina Henry Morrison, J. H. Robinson Henry Willis.

City Sextons Report for the month of October was read and adopted. His Honor John W. Glenn then delivered his closing address to the City Council, which was in substance as follows: “Gentlemen of the Council, the hour has arrived, when our existence as officers for the City of Austin ceases, and for myself I cheerfully surrender my position to my successor. I will dwell in pleasant recollections on our joint labors for the prosperity of our City. The benefits, which Austin may have derived from our administration, I attribute more to you, than to myself. You have restrained me in instances, doubtless, where I was inclined to be too hasty, and have spurred me on in others, where I may have been too tardy. In separating with you Gentlemen, permit me to say, that you carry with you, my best wishes for your future prosperity.”
In Accordance with Section 1. of an Ordinance, approved March 28th 1856'. His Honor, convened the Council for the purpose of making provisions for the installment of Mayor, City Marshal, City Treasurer and Aldermen elect.

On Motion of Alderman Henry Madison the Council adjourned, to give place to the incoming Council. His Honor J. B. Wheeler, Mayor, then delivered his inaugural address to the Council, which was in substance as follows: " Gentlemen of the Council! Assuming the position which the suffrages of my fellow Citizens have assigned me to, I do so with that character of apprehension, which characterizes one anxious to fulfill anticipations, but doubtful of his ability to do so. In the beginning of my official to earnest endeavors to come up to the requisition of my full duty. The City, whose Interests we have been chosen to foster and protect, has been selected by the voices of the people of Texas, as the capital of the Lone Star State, and I bespeak your active co-operation in beautifying and adorning her so as to distinguish her as the
