• Major spending approved: The city council unanimously authorized $1,000 (a substantial sum at the time) to entertain General Philip Sheridan and Secretary of War William Belknap during their visit to Austin.
• Fast-tracked decision: Council suspended normal voting procedures to pass the entertainment budget immediately, indicating the visit was considered high priority and time-sensitive.
• Civic committee delegation: Rather than manage the funds directly, the council handed the money over to a citizen committee appointed by the Mayor to handle all arrangements and expenses for the distinguished guests.
• Unanimous support: All seven council members present voted in favor, with no opposition or debate recorded.
