339 City Council Room Austin Tex April 24, 1873 Called meeting His Honor T. B. Wheeler called the Council to order, + the roll was called. Present: Ald. T. C. Sneed J. H. Robinson Geo. Sufisman Wm Brueggerhoff J. W. Hannig Absent: O. Bremond A. Scholz Petition of John G. Ezell asking privilege to open a butcher stall in the fourth Ward on R. Bertram's Block No 37 Div E was read, and on motion granted. Petition of D. Mc Ezell asking privilege to open a butcher stall in the first Ward near Mr. S. G. Sneed's residence was read, and on motion granted. Petition of Mefs G. W. Erwin & J. J. Erwin praying the right to place a small Engine on the banks of the Colorado river near the foot of Congress Avenue, and also for the right of way for about fifteen hundred feet of iron pipe to some point between S. W. Sutois Store, and the City Hotel, where to erect a Tank for the purpose of supplying the city with water. On motion of Ald. Robinson the petition was granted, with the condition to place the Tank over the gutter. Petition of Mefs G. W. Erwin & J. J. Erwin asking for a loan of a portion of fifteen hundred dollars for the purpose of furnishing an Engine, Pump, Iron Pipe, and Water Tank was read and on motion laid on the table Petition of Mefs Joc. Lucksinger & A. G. Budington asking the privilege to open a butcher stall in the fourth Ward on Mr. George Sufisman's Block No 39 Div. E, was read, and on motion granted. Bill of G. W. Erwin, amounting to a balance of $78.-- coin for filling the fire cistern near Hancock's building on Congress Avenue was presented. On motion of Ald. Robinson Marshal Long was authorized to sell enough city Warrants to pay the same. Petition of the Houston Texas Central Rail Road Company praying to lease South half of Block No 59 for the term of Ninety Nine years, for the purpose of establishing and improving a passenger Depot, was read. On motion of Ald. Brueggerhoff the petition was referred to a Committee of three, whereupon His Honour T. B. Wheeler appointed Ald. Sneed, Hannig and Bremond. --- Page break --- 340 On the suggestion of his Honor T. B. Wheeler, the Council appointed C.H. Mullican A.H. Coook jr. and Joseph Howell as Judges for the election which is to be held Monday May the 5th 1873 for an Alderman of the Third Ward. Ald Sneed moved that the eight Wards of the City be extended as now laid off with red ink on the city Maps in the Recorders Office which motion was unanimous ly carried. Ald. Robinson moved that the Mayor be authorized to make a contract immediately to lay a floor in the new Firemen's Building which motion was unanimously carried. Ald. Hannig moved that the City Recorder be authorized to sell enough city right to pay the Bill of thirty dollars due the Secretary of State for copying the new city Charter which motion was unanimously carried. On motion the Council adjourned until its regular month ly meeting. Fred Steeing Recorder City Council Room Austin Tex April 24th 1873 The Board of Aldermen sitting as a Court of Appeals The roll being called the following Aldermen answered to their names. Ald: T. E. Sneed Geo. Sufsmann J.H. Robinson Wm Brueggerhoff W. Hannig Absent " O. Bremond and Ald. A. Scholy Mr. H. B. Kinney considered himself aggrieved on the Assessment of his property and appealed to the Court. Ald. Brueggerhoff moved that Mr. H. B. Kinney's appeal be dismissed, which motion was unanimously carried. Ald. Sneed moved a reconsideration upon the vote of Mr D. P. Kinney's Assessment which was unanimously carried Ald. Brueggerhoff then moved that the Assessment of Mr. D.P. Kinney as Assessed by the city Assessor stand as Assessed which motion was unanimously carried. Ald. Robinson moved that the Assessment upon the improvements on North half of Lot 2 in Block No 69 belonging to S. B. Brush be raised from 3000 dollars to 000 dollars which motion was unanimously carried Upon the request of Mr. James P. McKinney, Ald. --- Page break --- 341 Sneed moved that the Assessment of James P. McKinney be raised from 4700 dollars to 5500 dollars which was carried. Ald. Brueggerhoff moved that the improvements on Mr Tifes Lot 2 in Block 111 be raised from 300 dollars to 600 dollars, which motion was unanimously carried. On motion of Ald. Sneed the Court of Appeals adjourned to Thursday May 1st 1873. Fred Sterzing Recorder. City Council Room Austin Texas May 5 73 Regular meeting. His Honor T.B. Wheeler called the meeting to order, the roll was called. Present: Ald. T.C. Sneed, C. Breemond " Geo. Susmann, A. Scholz " Wm. Brueggerhoff, J. H. Robinson, J. W. Hanning. Minutes of last month were read, and adopted. His Honor T.B. Wheeler read the report of the judges of special election for Alderman of the third Ward. G.T. Boardshaving received the majority of votes cast in said election G.T. Boardman was therefore on motion of Ald. Sneed declared duly elected Alderman of the third Ward. Petition of Dr. C.N. Worthington & Alf. H. Robinson praying to have opened the West Avenue between Pecan Street and Cedar Street was read, whereupon Ald. Sneed offered the following Resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin That the Mayor required to cause a survey to be made of West Avenue of said City and ascertain who have obstructed said Avenue by the erection of fencing, houses or oth- erwise, and the extent of such obstructions; and that in the event that any person or persons who have so obstructed said Avenue shall fail neglect or refuse to remove such obstruction for five days after the service of written notice requiring the removal thereof, the Mayor shall cause such obstructions to be removed at the expense of the City.
