which have been emptied of their merchandise shall be placed or remain on said bridges. Sec 2nd Any person who shall throw most fafes, parts of boxes, barrels, trash, slops or any other material, throw fresh water in the gutters of the city, or shall construct or have constructed a private bridge which shall in any manner obstruct the free passage of water or shall let waste papers, parts of boxes, barrels, trash, slops, filth or any other material remain in the gutters in front of the buildings which he occupies after receiving notice from the city Marshal to remove the same, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. Sec 3rd That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance be and they are hereby repealed, and that this ordinance take effect and be in force from and after its passage. On motion of Ald. Robinson the rules were suspended, the ordinance read the second time, on motion of Ald. Robinson the rules were further suspended, the ordinance read the third time, the yeas and nays being called it passed by the following vote. Yeas: Alds. T. S. Sneed, G. T. Boardman, Geo. Supersam Wm Bruggahoff J. H. Robinson J. W. Hannig, Nays: none Petition of James B. Morris asking the Council to direct and require the Marshal to grade West Avenue in front of Block No. 105 was read, and referred to Street Committee. On motion of Ald. Hannig the Council adjourned until their regular monthly meeting.

City Council Room, Austin Tex June 9th 1875 City Council met pursuant to a call of His Honor the Mayor. Present His Honor J. W. Wheeler in the Chair. The Roll being called the following Aldermen answered to their names, to wit: Ald. J. A. Sneed, C. Bremond, " A. Scholz, Wm Brueggerhoff, " J. H. Robinson, J. W. Hannig, Absent: " G. J. Boardman, Geo. Superintendent Petition of Allen & Condon, asking privilege to open butcher Market on out lot No 1 in Div Q, was read and granted. Petition of Dontoni & Scolaris asking to have sanctioned the license issued to them by the Mayor to retail liqu- ors was read, and on motion of Ald. Brueggerhoff the Mayor was instructed to revoke the same. Ald. Sneed moved to revoke the license of Mr. L. Able to sell liquors, and the Mayor be instructed to refund the money on the same, which motion was carried. Petition of J. Quast asking the Council to Take some steps to stop the boys from destroying the birds nests was read, and on motion of Ald. Hannig, laid on the table. Petition of Henry Hienert, and many saloon keepers praying for a reduction of license tax on jenny Lind & Pigeon hole tables from $30 to $25 per annum was read and on motion of Ald. Hannig, laid on the table. Petition of James Houst asking privilege to open a butcher Market on the public square north of the Court house was read, whereupon Ald. Sneed moved that the Mayor be authorized to issue a license to said petitioner, provided he has the petition signed by the neighbor-hood of said public square, which motion was carried. Petition of W. Asper praying to have refunded the sum of $12.00 by paid unlawfully to a former administration as license on jenny Lind Table was read, on mo- tion of Ald. Hannig the Mayor was authorized to refund the same provided he finds the same so paid. Petition of Geo. Doolittle asking for a balance of commission amounting to $784.00 as explained in the same was read, and referred to Finance Committee. Bill of J. C. Miller amounting to $100.00 cy. for detention

of a Culvert on Boisde Ave Street and letting reforward the same was presented and refered to Street Committee. Bill of Dr. J. T. Walker for stitching and dressing the ext of "Hitchfelt" amounting to $10 was presented and on motion laid on the table. Ald. Bremond moved that all money coming into the hands of the City sexton be turned over into the City Treas ury and be used for a Cemetery fund which motion was unanimously carried. Petition of Fred. Marchell praying to be appointed on the police force was read whereupon Ald. Bremond moved that he be appointed and his duties be to catch all unlicensed dogs, impound all hogs and cattle running at large within the city; see that all Alleys premises and Privys are kept clean, report to the Mayor all violations of ordinances and do all other duties he may be instructed to do which motion was carried unanimously. Ald. Hannig moved that the Mayor be authorized to make a deed to Mr. Nellery for one half of a Cemetery lot without compensation the half on which his child is buried on which motion was carried. Ald. Bremond moved that the Chairman of the Cemetery Committee be authorized to have the City Surveyor measure the amount of walling done in the Cemetery which motion was carried. Ald. Bueggerhoff offers the following Resolution to wit: Be it resolved by the city Council of the city of Austin. That the Assessor & Collector shall publish the Merchandise Assessment at expiration of each fiscal quarter with the name of the Merchant so rendering it and the amount of his Assessment Which Resolution passed unan imously. Ald. Sneed offered the following Resolution to wit Be it resolved by the city Council of the city of Austin that the use of the city Hall is hereby tendered to Mrs Jackson for Tuesday night the 10th day of June 18[illegible] for the purposes of her rehearsals and musical exam inalion free of charge provided that in case J. D.[illegible] shall light up the Hall on said night he shall be entitled to such compensation for lighting the Hall as may be agreed upon between him and Mrs Jackson or her Agent, and a copy of this resolution be furnished.

Sneed offered the following Resolution to wit: Be it resolved by the city Council of the city of Austin that the Mayor be and he is hereby authorized to offer for sale Austin city bonds to the amount of $12,000, said bonds to be in denominations of $100, to be payable in ten years, and to draw interest at the rate of ten per cent per annum, to be paid semiannually. Said sale to be made by receiving sealed proposals, for the same in whole or in part, in money or approved claims, against the city. The city reserving the right to reject any and all bids. And enough of the income of the city of each and every year is hereby set apart to pay the interest on, and to form a sinking fund to pay the principal of all bonds which may be sold under this resolution. Which resolution was unanimously carried. Ald. Sneed moved that the Mayor be requested to call on Judge Gray and ask him to give an explanation of his advise to Mr Halamy which motion was carried.
