The Roll being called the following Aldermen answered to their names towit: Ald. C. Bremond, S. T. Boardman, Geo. Sussmann, Wm Brueggerhoff J. W. Hannig, J. H. Robinson and A. H. Longley Absent: Ald. T. E. Sneed, A. Scholz and S. Thompson Minutes of last month were read and adopted. Petition of Louis Blumentritt praying to be released from his notes as executed for his butcher privilege was read, and on motion referred to Market House Committee. Petition of Barbers praying that an ordinance be passed to prohibit the opening of Barber shops after 10 oclock on Sunday mornings, was read and refered to Ordinance Committee with instruction to

387 draft an ordinance in compliance with the same but so as to read 11 oclock instead 10 oclock. Petition of A. H. Cook, Sr, James F. Johnson, Peter Smith and others of the third ward, praying for the opening of Ash Street from Guadalupe Street to the West side Nueces Street was read, received and granted to the full extend of the petition. Petition of E. Allen praying for the passage of an ordinance and to grant him the privilege of opening a meat Market East of East Avenue, was received and referred to Market House Committee with instructions to make report at next meeting. Communication from Washington Steam Engine Company requesting not to establish any "polls" or voting places in the Engine House of said Company, was read received and granted. Bills of the judges and clerks of the special election held on the 16th of August 1873, viz: Jc. Harrell, C. Krohn O. H. Milligan, E. P. Phillipps, R. C. Hart amounting to $5.00 currency each, were presented and on motion allowed. Petition of the Houston Central Rail Road Company praying for a change in their assessment in the new addition of the city, as it had not been correctly assessed, was received, explained, and on motion of Ald. Robinson changed from $48,000 to $36000 as rendered by said Company. Ald. C. Bremond moved that a special Committee of three be appointed to examine a safe belonging to R. M. Johnson and said Committee be empowered to purchase the same for two one hundred dollar bonds if thought expedient, which motion was unanimously carried. His Honor the Mayor appointed on that Committee Ald. Bremond, Hannig, and Robinson. Ald. Longley offered the following resolution to wit: Be it resolved by the city Council of the city of Austin that His Honor the Mayor be, and is hereby authorized and requested to Construct a public Well in the immediate vicinity of the freight Depot H. & T. C. R. R. the place to be selected by the Mayor and Street Committee after consulting with the Agent of

the H & T. C.R.R. and other parties interested. Resolved further that the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250°°) be, and the same is hereby appropriated out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated to defray the expense of digging curbing, equipping and repairing said public Well. On motion of Ald. Brueggerhoff the rules were suspended, the resolution read the second time; on motion of Ald. Longley the rules were further suspended, the resolution read the third time, the yeas and nays be- ing called the resolution passed by the following vote: Yeas: Ald. Bremond, Bußmann, Brueggerhoff, Robinson, Hannig, and Longley. Nays: None Ald. Bremond moved that the Street Committee be authorized to examine the ditches at the foot of the Avenue and to take such action in regards to the repairs of the same as they may deem necessary, which motion was carried Ald. Brueggerhoff moved that the Street Committee immediate attention be directed to the iron bridge over Waller creek on Pecan Street and that they be fully authorized to have all repairs done on the bridge that be found necessary, which motion was unanimbusly carried. A Bill from C.W. Shands, for three months room rent for City Surveyor, was presented and on motion a warrant was ordered to be issued for the amount. On motion of Ald. Longley, the appointment of J.W. LaRen, as Policeman, was confirmed. On motion of Ald. Brueggerhoff, the appointment of C.M. Rome, as policeman, was confirmed. The Street Committee, to whom was referred the claim of M. W. Townsend, reported favorable on the same and on motion of Ald. Robinson, a warrant was ordered to be issued for the same. A bill from W. Thaxton, for hire of carts and wagon for work done on Street, amounting to $37°° was presented, and on motion, it was ordered that a warrant be issued for the same. Ald. Longley offered the following resolution to wit: Be it resolved by the city Council of the city of Austin, that the City of Austin hereby assumes the payment

of Office rent, on account of the City Physician from and after the first day of April 1875. to the first day of November 1875 provided the same shall not exceed fifteen dollars per month in coin or its equivalent in City Warrants. On motion of Ald. Brueggerhoff the yeas and nays were called and the resolution passed by the following vote: Yeas; Ald. Bremond, Buspmann Brueggerhoff, J.H. Robinson J.W. Hannig Longly. Nays; None. Ald. Hannig offered the following resolution towit: Be it resolved by the city Council of the city of Austin, that from and after the passage of this Resolution the City Sexton shall receive an annual salary of five hundred dollars $500.00 in currency, and in addition to his former duties, he shall keep in repair and clean all Streets and sidewalks and Alleys within the city Cemetery grounds, under the direction of the City Cemetery Committee; the cost of the work of which he shall pay out of his salary. On motion of Ald. Longley the rules were suspended, the resolution read the second time; on motion of Ald. Robinson the rules were further suspended the resolution read the third time, the yeas and nays being called the resolution passed by the following vote: towit Yeas; Ald. Bremond, Buspmann, Brueggerhoff, Robinson, Hannig and Longley. Nays None A petition of C. Potosky, praying for the privilege of erecting a wooden building on Lots 1&2 in Block 18, was explained, and on motion the privilege was unanimously granted. A petition from H. B. Amity, asking to be appointed interpreter for the Mayors Court, was read and, on motion, laid on the table. Ald. Brueggahoff offered the following Resolution. Be it resolved by the city Council of the city of Austin that his Honor the Mayor is hereby requested to call a meeting of the city Council upon the receipt of any communication from either Galveston Houston or any other infected points, that will warrant action in regard to the sanitary condition

of the city, or to adopt quarantine regulations, which resolution passed unanimously. Ald. Bremond moved that the Recorder be authorized to sell to the best advantage city warrants at the end of each week, for the amount necessary to pay off the hands working on the Streets, which motion was unanimously carried. Ald. Bremond moved that the City Surveyor be authorized to employ an assistant at the most reasonable terms possible, and report the amount of his salary at the next meeting which motion was carried.
