His Hon. J. B. Wheeler in the chair called the Council to order, the roll being called the following named Aldermen answered to their names towit: C Bremond, J. T. Boardman, Wm. Brueggerhoff, Ed. Christian, J. Dobine, H. M. Hity, N. B. Mitchell, J. H. Robinson, A. Scholz, B. H. Lodd Minutes from the month of January 1874 were read and adopted. Petition of N. P. Jensen praying for the privilege to retail liquors in quantities less than one quart, was read and granted. Petition of A. G. Bradbury for the privilege to retail liquors in quantities less than one quart, was read and granted Petition of Meachell Brothers praying to retail liquors in quantities less than one quart was read and granted. Petition of J. J. & W. H. Tobin praying for the privilege to erect a stairway on the South side of the Tiller building on Pecan Street was read and referred to Street Committee to make report at the next meeting. Petition of B. Nellasky, Ben Walker and many other tax-payers of this city, praying for the purchase of a Steam Fire Engine for the Colorado Fire Company No. 2, was read, received, and referred to His Hon. the Mayor. Petition of C. M. Rome praying for a balance pay, $18.00 for services as mounted police for the month of January 1874, was read, and referred to Police Committee to report at next meeting. Petition of C. W. Louis & C. T. Haigler praying for a renewal of their butcher privilege in Ward 2 for the insuing year, was read, and referred to Market House Committee. Petition of J. L. Petition of Henry Williams, Bobby Walther and many other citizens of the 6th Ward, praying for the erection of a Public Well in the main Street of Wheatsville was read, received, and and referred to Street Committee. The following communication was then read: Office Howard Association Shreveport, La. December 15th 1873 To the Mayor of Austin Sir, Permit us on behalf of our Association and for the sick and destitute people of our community, to return you our sincere thanks for the liberal donation received from your citizens. We have as follows: Received by New Orleans Howard association for Shreveport $100.00 Hoping that Shreveport may some day have the pleasure of repaying in some way the kind friends who so nobly and generously come to her assistance in the hour of Trial. confirmed by the City Council. The report of Alex. Evans for the month of January 1874, was presented, on motion of Ald. Brueggerhoff action on same was postponed untill the regular meeting. Special committee which was, appointed to draft a general license ordinance, reported, introduced and recomended the passage of an ordinance entitled: "An Ordinance to regulate Licenses, Report and ordinance received. The Ordinance read in whole, the Ordinance was the read by sections, and each section adopted seperately. After the adoption of the ordinance, the rules were, on motion of Ald. Dohme suspended, the ordinance read the second time, on motion of Ald. Bremond the rules were further suspended, the ordinance read the third time. The yeas, and nays being called the ordince passed by the following vote: Yeas, Ald. Bremond, Boardman, Brueggerhoff, Christian, Dohme, Meitz, Mitchell, Robinson Scholz, Todd. Bremond the rules were further suspended, the ordinan read the third time; the yeas and nays being called the Ordinance passed by the following vote: Yeas. Ald. Police Committee who had under consideration an ordinance No(4) entitled: "An Ordinance relative to police and police regulations, introduced the same and recommended its passage. The Ordinance was received and read. On motion of Ald. Boardman the rules were suspended, the ordinance read the second time, On motion of Ald Bremond the rules were further suspended the ordinance read the third time. The yeas and nays being called the Ordinance passed by the following vote: Yeas. Ald. Bremond, Boardman, Brueggerhoff, Christian, Dohme, Metz, Mitchell, Robinson, Sholz, Todd. Police Committee who had under consideration an ordinance No(5) to be entitled: An Ordinance regulating the duties and prescribing the fees of City Marshalls, introduced the same and recomended its passage. The ordinance was received and read. On motion of Ald Metz, the rules were suspended, the ordinance read the second time. On motion of Ald. Boardman the rules were further suspended, the ordi- nance read third time. The Yeas and nays were being called the ordinance passed by the following vote: Yeas. Ald. Bremond, Boardman, Brueggerhoff, Dohme, Metz, Mitchell, Robinson, Sholz, Todd. (Ald Christian being absent.) Ald. Brueggerhoff offered the following Resolution which was adopted, towit: Be it resolved that all Bills for payment of the City Police shall be indorsed by not less than

than a majority of the Police Committee and approved by them before any warrant shall be issued by them. Ald. Brueggerhoff offered the following Resolution which was adopted, towit: Be it resolved, that all taxes and dues to the City of Austin may be paid in City Warrants, except such dues as are otherwise provided for by ordinance, and that the resolution providing for the payment of taxes and dues, one half in U.S. currency is hereby repealed. Ald. Boardman introduced the following Resolution which was adopted, towit: Be it resolved, that this Honor be instructed to make proposals to receive bids for the purpose of filling in the stone bridge now erected on ravine at the crossing of Ash an Nueces Streets and to open, drain, and grade Ash Street from said bridge to Guadaloupe Street. Ald. Brüeggerhoff offered the following Resolution, towit. Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, That the City Marshal is hereby authorized and required to take possession of the City Cemetery and place Mr. C.L. Nitschke the City Sexton elect in possession of the same, Any person interfering shall be arrested and be tried for misdemeanor, and be fined as in other cases of misdemeanor. On motion of Ald. Boardman the yeas and nays were called on the adoption of the resolution resulting as follows: Yeas: Ald. Brueggerhoff, Bohme, Metz, Sivoly, Todd. Nays: Ald. Bremond Boardman, Mitchell, Robinson, (Ald. Christian being absent.) An Ordinance was introduced, entitled, An Ordinance to provide for the construction of Water Works in the City of Austin Texas. The ordinance was read. On motion the ordinance was referred to a special committee of four: Ald. Robinson, Bremond, Mitchell and Brueggerhoff. On motion His Hons. B.
