442 City Council Room Austin, Tex. February 25, 1877. City Council met pursuant to adjournment. His Honor J. B. Wheeler in the chair called the Council to order. The roll being called, the following named Aldermen answered to their names, to wit: Wm. Brueggerhoff, F. Dohme, J. H. Robinson. A. Schoff. J. H. Todd, Absent: Ald. E. Bremond, G. S. Boardman, Ed. Christian & N. B. Mitchell. and Ald. S. J. Todd, Brueggerhoff moved to adjourn to Tuesday evening 7 1/2 o’clock March 3rd 1877, and that the Marshal be instructed to inform all the Aldermen. Carried.

Report of Alex. Evans for the Month of February 1877 was presented and preferred to Cemetery Committee. 443 effect first day of March 1877. was taken up and read, on motion the rules were suspended, the Resolution read the second time; on motion the rules were further suspended, the Resolution read third time; the yeas and nays being called the Resolution passed by the following vote; Yeas – Alds. Boardman, Brueggerhoff, Holtz, Robinson, Scholtz, and Zold. Nays none. A bill in favor of Ed. Tift’s Estate, amounting to $110.00 silver for Rent of Warehouse, for 7 Months, was presented, received, and referred to Finance Committee. Ald. Brueggerhoff moved that the Mayor be authorized to Rent the Market Hall to the best advantage, with the understanding that the citizens can have the use for public meetings where desired, and that the keys be left at all times in the Office of Recorder. Carried. On motion of Ald. Brueggerhoff the Mayor’s veto Message on the resolution authorizing the City Marshal to take charge of the City Cemetery and place therein B.C. Kitchill the Sexton elect, was taken up and read. Ald. Robinson moved to postpone action on the Message till the adjournment of the District Court. Motion Lost. Whereupon Ald. Brueggerhoff moved that action be postponed until the first Monday after the adjournment of the District Court. Carried. Ald. Robinson introduced an ordinance N°17. to be Entitled: An Ordinance providing the manner of letting contracts for work to be done on Streets. The ordinance was read the first time, on motion the rules were suspended, the ordinance read second time, on motion the rules where further suspended the ordinance read third time, the yeas and nays being called the ordinance passed by the following vote. Yeas – Alds. Boardman, Brueggerhoff, Bohme, Holtz, Robinson, Scholtz, and Todd. Nays – none.

444 Ald. Bruggerhoff offered the following resolution which was adopted: Be it resolved that the City Council do now elect a President of the Board of Aldermen to hold that position for the term of his election, as Alderman. The Council went into election. Ald. Bruggerhoff nominated Ald. G. T. Boardman Ald. Hetz nominated Ald. J. H. Robinson. Tellers were appointed and ballot spread resulting as follows: Ald. G. T. Boardman four votes; Ald. J. H. Robinson two votes; Ald. Wm. Bruggerhoff one vote. Ald. G. T. Boardman having received the majority votes cast was thereupon declared elected President of the Board of Aldermen for the balance of his term of Office. Ald. Boardman presented a list of subscripers to the bridge built across ravine on Ash Street, and asked that warrants be issued for the several amounts as subscribed, with discount added. The same was referred to Street Committee. On motion of Ald. Bruggerhoff the ordinance N° 12, to be entitled: An Ordinance establishing and regulating the Fire Department of the city of Austin. Was taken up, amended and read the first time as amended, on motion the rules were suspended, the ordinance read the second time, on motion the rules were further suspended the ordinance read the third time, the Yeas and Nays being called the ordinance passed by the following vote. Yeas – Ald. Boardman, Bruggerhoff, Dodds, Hetz, Robinson, Seifert, and Todd, Nays – none. On motion of Ald. Bruggerhoff the Recorder was authorized to have 200 handbills of the ordinance printed and one half to be distributed to the fire department. On motion the Council adjourned to meet Monday 7½ oclock P. M. March 1. Fred. Sterzing Recorder
