Austin Appoints New City Marshal in 1874
• City Marshal Resignation: Police chief M. Mc Long resigned on June 16, 1874, and the council unanimously accepted his resignation.
• Special Election Called: The mayor was authorized to hold an election for a new city marshal on June 30, 1874, at two locations—George Mamerke's building and the Mayor's Office.
• New Marshal Installed: Following the June 30 election, the council met on July 2 to receive the election results and officially install the newly elected city marshal.

Called meeting of City Council Austin Tex. June 16, 1874. His Honor J. B. Wheeler Mayor in the chair called the Council to order. Present: Aldermen - Wm Bruggerhoff, G. V. Boardman, S. Dohme, H. H. Metz, J. H. Robinson, A. Behrly and S. H. Todd. Absent Ald- E. Bremond, Ed. Christian and A.B. Mitchell. His Hon J. B. Wheeler stated that city Marshall M. Mc Long had this day tendered his resignation and that the Council was called together to decide whether the resignation of Mr. Mc Long be accepted or not, whereupon the yeas and nays were called and the resignation accepted by the following vote: Yeas - Ald. Bruggerhoff, Boardman, Dohme, Metz, Robinson, Behrly, and Todd. Nays: none. Ald. Robinson moved that the Mayor be and is hereby authorized to order an election for a city Marshal, to be held on the 30th day of June 1874 at Geo. Mamerke building and in the Mayor's Office and to appoint the judges and clerks of said election. Carried. Fred Sterzing Recorder.

Boardman, Wm Bruggerhoff, S. Dohme, H. H. Metz, N. B. Mitchell, J. H. Robinson, A. Behrly and S. H. Todd. Absent Aldermen E. Bremond, & Ed. Christian His Honor stated that the meeting was called to receive the report from the Judges of election and install the elected Marshall. Whereupon motion the report from the Judges of the election held June 30, 1874 for City Marshal, was read received and approved.
