His Honor J. B. Wheeler Mayor presiding Present Aldermen, G. J. Braxman, Wm. Broeggerhoff, F. Dohme, H. McMelly, S. B. Mitchell, J. H. Robinson and O. H. Scholz. Absent Aldermen F. Bremond, Ed Christian and B. H. Todd.
Minutes of the months of April, May and June 1874. were read and adopted. Petition of J. C. Weed, praying for permission to move, a small house, from near Mr. Platte's stable, on Bean Street, about three hundred yards above on the same block, was read and referred to the Fire Committee.
Petition of S. R. Freeman, agt. and Atty. for the Southern Baptist Convention, asking that the various bills contracted in this city by their delegation, be paid by the City, On motion the diferent bills were allowed.
Petition of P. W. Erwin, asking permission to erect a water tank near Mrs. McGrath's stable for the purpose of watering the streets, was read and on motion granted.
Petition of G. L. Aitsche, City Sexton, asking for the erection of a small building in the City Cemetery for the purpose of storing therein utensils, materials and the Cemetery records etc, was read and referred to Cemetery Committee with power to act in this matter as might be deemed proper.
Petition of J. G. Litter and others, requesting that Bock Street be graded on the west side from King block 83. between Bois D'Arc and Hickory streets, was read and referred to the Street Committee with power to act as they might deem proper.
Petition of Walter Sise in behalf of the Austin Turn Verein, asking that the said Turn Verein be relieved from the payment of city taxes until November 1st 1875. was read, whereupon Alderman Broeggerhoff

487. offered the following resolution, to wit: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, That the Austin Turn-Verein Association is hereby exempt from city taxes and licenses until November 1st 1875, from date. The yeas and nays being called, the resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas–Ald. Boardman, Bruggerhoff, Dohme, Hitz, Mitchell, Robinson and Scholz, Nays= none. The Street Committee asked for further time to report on the progress of the foot bridge to be erected on West Green Street. Granted. The Police Committee reported favorably on petitition of J. W. La Rew, Health Officer, in regard to being mounted, Report received, and on motion approved. Ald. Robinson moved that the contract with Mr. Brown in regard to grading and paving certain side-walks on the Avenue be annulled. Carried. Mr. [illegible] official bond was then presented and approved. A communication from W. R. Baker, Vice President of Houston and Texas Central Railroad Company, asking the city to assist and protect said Company in, but said in keeping the right of way of their street, as granted to said Company by a former administration, and if not protected in this, they would be compelled to withdraw their track and depot to the outer limits of the city, was read and referred to a special committee of five, with the mayor, His Honor, appointed on that committee Ald. Robinson, Mitchell, Boardman, Bruggerhoff and Dohme. Ald. Bruggerhoff offered the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, That the mayor and Street Committee are hereby authorized to advertise for proposals and receive bids after ten days notice, for the laying of good stone pavement, with curbing such as is laid down now in front of the A. Kohns building, for the six lots owned by the State - and fronting on the Avenue. Also to advertise for bids for grading and paving the gutters on...

Congress. Bodence. The yeas and nays being called the Resolution passed by the following vote: Yeas - Ald. Boardman, Bruggerhoff, Deluxe, Metz, Mitchall, Robinson and Scholz. Nays - none. The City Marshals Report for the month of June, 1874. was presented and referred to Police Committee. Petition of John Chaineville, and others, asking the right to organize a hook, and ladder Fire Company, was explained, and referred to The Fire Committee and Chief of the Fire Department with power to act as they might deem proper. Ald. Robinson introduced the following Resolution to wit: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin. That from and after the first day of August 1874. the salary of the regular City police shall be seventy five dollars, and the salary of mounted police shall be ninety dollars, and the one dollar fee heretofore allowed policemen for each arrest shall thereafter be turned into the city Treasury. The yeas and nays being called, the Resolution passed by the following vote: YeasAld. Boardman, Bruggerhoff, John Metz, Mitchall, Robinson, and H. Scholz. Nays - none. Report of the City Sexton of the month of June, 1874. was read and referred to Cemetery Committee. A bill was presented in favor of Mr. Meather of $140. for repairing engine, painting Hall and furnishing furniture to Colorado Fire Co. N°2. On motion the bill was referred to Fire Committee with power to allow the same if found right in their judgment. His Honor the Mayor appointed Mr. J. C. Heirs for city engineer and surveyor. The board of Aldermen by a unanimous vote confirmed the appointment. Ald. Robinson moved that the matter in regard to appointing additional policemen be referred to Police Committee, Mayor and Marshal, and that it be made known that applications be

His Hon. J. B. Wheeler Mayor in the chair called the Council to order. The roll being called the following Aldermen answered to their names: Aldermen J. Bronvovold, G. T. Boardman, Wm. Bouggerhoff, F. Dolome, H. H. Mclty, N. P. Mitchell, A. H. Robinson, Absent. Aldermen Ed. Christian, J. Scholz and S. H. Todd. His Hon. the Mayor stated that the meeting had been called to take action in regard to procuring dumping carts, and appointing the additional Police. The Mayor appointed W. P. Allers Capt. A. H. Cox and H. C. Langford as policemen and submitted their names to the Board of Aldermen. On motion the appointments were confirmed. Ald. Bronvovold moved that the Street Committee and Marshal be authorized to purchase two carts and two mules or horses and make arrangements for the keeping of the same. Carried. Ald. Bronvovold moved that the Street Committee be instructed, and authorized to inspect the Street Gas Lamps and if found according to contract to accept the same and report at the next meeting. And that said Committee also distribute the old Street lamps as they may see proper. Carried. Mr. Bal. C. Liles was nominated by His Hon. the Mayor as city weigher and his name submitted to The Board of Aldermen. On motion the nomination was confirmed. On motion the Street Committee was instructed to select a place for the erection of the public scales, and make report of the same at next meeting. On motion, Council adjourned.
