Gas Infrastructure Expansion: Council approved laying gas pipes to the city market house at public expense, with the market's occupants covering the cost of gas usage.

Municipal Upgrades: The city approved purchases for office improvements (matting for the Mayor's Office) and authorized the Street Committee to acquire a horse and cart for city operations.

492 The following resolution was introduced to wit, Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin. That the Mayor be and is hereby authorized to issue to J. Limerick sixteen one hundred dollar Austin City Bonds bearing ten per cent interest from date, Said Bonds being given in payment of work done for excavating and filling up the approaches to the stone bridge on Ash street. On motion the rules were suspended the resolution read the second time. On motion the rules were further suspended the resolution read third time and passed by the following vote: Yeas Ald. Boardman Brueggerhoff Dohme Metz Mitchell Robinson and Todd Nays: None His Hon. the Mayor appointed R. Bertram as city [illegible] and placed his name before the Board of Aldermen By ballot the appointment was confirmed. A bill for gas for the month of July 1874 amounting to $164 also a bill of $102 for the erection of twenty street lamps, posts connections, etc. was presented and referred to Finance Committee. On motion Council adjourned. Fred Sterzing Recorder. Called meeting of City Council Austin Tex August 21st 1874. His Hon. T.B. Wheeler in the chair called the Council to order. Rolled called. Aldermen present J.T. Boardman Wm. Brueggerhoff F. Dohme H.M. Metz N.B. Mitchell J.H. Robinson and S.H. Todd. Aldermen absent T. Bremond, Ed. Christian and A. Scholz. His Hon. the Mayor stated that the meeting was called to investigate the charges of L.P. Hopkins it had been reported to him by the city Marshall that Police Officer P.L. Hopkins had entered the Saloon of J.H. Robinson and there conducted himself in a very improper manner by endeavoring to disturb and provoke a quarrel with Mr. Mclure Pratt the bar Keep- er of said Saloon. And that he thought proper to submit the matter to the Board of Aldermen for --- Page break --- 493 investigation. The charges were read. Officer Hopkins plead not guilty. — Mr Monroe Pratt was sworn and examined. — Officer Mety was sworn and examined. — Mr Musgrove was sworn and examined. The Court was then cleared and the following resolution offered and unanimously adopted, To wit: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin That in the charges made against Officer P.J. Hopkins for disorderly conduct not becoming an Officer; that this being the first complaint while an Officer of this City, That the Mayor is hereby ordered to reprimand him for the same; that however he be retained on the Police Force of this City. On motion of Ald. Robinson the Mayor was authorized to purchase matting for the Mayor's Office and Staireway. On motion of Ald. Bruggerhoff the Street Committee was authorized to purchase a horse and cart for city provided they can buy the same on three months time at cash rates. On motion Council adjourned. Krohn and other butchers, was read, praying for the laying of gas pipes to the city market house at the expense of the city.
