Regular meeting of the City Council Austin Ty [illegible] March 1st/75 The Hon. J. B. Wheeler, Mayor in the chair. Present—Aldermen S. J. Boardman, Wm Brueggerhoff, O. H. Cullen, F. Dohme, N. B. Milstell, S. Piper, J. H. Robinson and S. H. Todd. On motion the reading of the Minutes were dispensed with. A petition from H. Hofheintz was read, requesting that the Street Committee be authorized to have a ditch dug on Cedar Street on a line with the Austin City Railway Co's track to prevent the water from running through the alley in Block No. 35. Referred to Street Committee. Report from the City Marshal, for the month of February was read and referred to Police Committee. Report from the City Sexton, for the month of February was read and referred to Cemetery Committee. Report from City Physician, for the month of February was read and received. Resignation of Charles Marshall, City Market Master, was read, and on motion accepted. Whereupon His Honor the Mayor appointed W. P. Hulbert for the position of City Market Master. The ballot was spread and counted, and the appointment unanimously confirmed, by seven votes. On motion the appointments of the following named police officers were unanimously conf[irmed] to wit: N. Musgrove, C. Fahay, James Farrell B. F. Steid and C. C. Lock.

Ald. Cullen offered the following resolution. Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, That hereafter no license shall be issued by the City authorities of the City of Austin, to any person what so ever to pursue or carry on any business in said City which contravenes any of the provisions of any of the penal statutes of the State of Texas. Referred to Ordinance Committee. Ald. Cullen introduced the following resolution which was adopted, to wit: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, That hereafter it shall be the duty of the City Physician in making his report to the City Council, to state the names of the patients, the disease, the length of time sick, and when discharged. Ald. Boardman offered the following resolution to wit: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin that it recommends a cooperation with the County authorities, hav- ing for its object the calling of attention of parties contemplating emigration, to Travis and neighboring Counties, by the issuance of small pamphlets descriptive of advantages, etc, etc, and for mail circulation. On motion the resolution was referred to the Printing Committee with instructions to consult with the county authorities, with reference to having pamphlets printed, etc. Messrs. J. S. Ford, N. G. Shelly and B. Cooperwood, a committee from the association of the survivors of the Mexican war, were received by the City Council, and stated that as the association had determined to hold their next anniversary on the eighth of May, in the city of Austin, at which time it was expected that all the members of the association in the State of Texas and others amount- ing to several hundred persons would be present. The committee wished to know

whether or not the city would take part the association in the celebration of the anniversary. Whereupon, Ald. Bruggerhoff offered the following resolution which was adopted, towit: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, that a special commit- tee of three Aldermen be appointed by the Mayor to confer with a like Com- mittee of the Association of the survivors of the Mexican war, as to what steps should be taken to properly celebrate the Anniversary of the 8th of May, in connection with the said Association, and that said committee be instructed to report at the next called meeting of this Council. Aldermen Bruggerhoff, Cullen and Robinson were appointed on that com- mittee. On motion the Council adjourned to 4 oclock p. m. Friday next. Fred Sterzing Recorder.

Bailey was read, asking leave to use a certain building built by him in the neighborhood of the freight depot for the purpose of Storing oils therein, etc. Refered to the Fire Committee.

Reports of Committees. To the Honorable Mayor and City Council of the city of Austin. Gents - Your committee to whom was re- ferred the matter of getting up a celebration for the veterans of the Mexican war, to confer with a like committee on the part of the veterans, to devise means of entertaining said veterans in the State of Texas on the eighth day of May, 1875, beg leave to report that it is the sense of said committee that the Mayor and Common Council, and the citizens generally, of the City of Austin and surrounding country participate in aid said the celebration; that on the seventh day of May, 1875, the Mayor and City Council, in a body, repair to the passenger depot to meet and receive the veterans who may arrive on the train on the evening of that day; that the Mayor be requested to invite the different Fire, Military, and other organizations in the city to form a part of the procession on the eighth of May 1875 in its march to the Capitol; also to appoint and request their co-operation, a committee of the citizens of said city to solicit money contributions, and also a committee of ladies to ar- range and receive contributions, both in money and provisions for the dinner to be had on that day at the Capitol in said City. J.H. Cullen Chairman, Wm Brueggerhoff J.H. Robinson. The report was received and adopted, and the Recorder instructed to furnish a copy to the committee of the veterans. To the Hon. The report was received and the petition granted. On motion, the Fire Committee was instruted to examine a certain shed now be- ing erected within the fire limits. Evans be permitted to complete his shed, now in course of erection on his premises, provided he covers the roof with Tin, and makes no wall to the same, Carried. On motion the Council adjourned.
