• Water works project postponed – A committee reported that the city lacks sufficient finances to build a municipal water system at this time, delaying the project.

The report was received and the petition granted. On motion, the Fire Committee was instru ted to examine a certain shed now be- ing erected within the fire limits. Alderman Brueggerhoff moved that Mr. G. A. Evans be permitted to complete his shed, now in course of erection on his premises, provided he covers the roof with Tin, and makes no wall to the same. The Mayor said that the meeting was called to receive the report from the committee appointed at a [illegible] med meeting to assigne the new Steam Fire Engine to one of the Fire Companies. No 1 be assigned to Colorado Engine Company No 2. We also recommend that the old Hand Engine be sold by the city on best terms, and without delay by the Committee formerly appointed by your Honorable Body for that purpose. On motion the report was received and unanimously adopted. The following report from the Mayor was read, towit: Mayors Office Austin March 21st 1875 To the Aldermen of the city of Austin: Gentlemen: In obedience to your resolution I have sold the 41. five hundred city Bonds at the following rates and to the parties here named. To Mr. Chadwick two $500 Bonds at 77 cents in city warrants $1000. To Messrs. Forster Ludlow &Co. eighteen Bonds at 73½ cents cash 19,000 making the 20,000 thousand. The interest on said Bonds to begin on the 21st day of this month. Messrs. Forster, Ludlow &Co. agree to furnish the city with money for its present necessities. I would respectfully state that in conjunction with the Finance Committee, I advertised in each of the city papers, for several weeks, for Bids on these city Bonds, and we received the above bids, being the only ones made. Believing this is as well as we can do, the bids were awarded to the above parties. Respectfully Submitted J. B. Wheeler Mayor. On motion the report was received, adopted, and ordered to be spread upon the Min- utes.

A petition from Wm Brueggerhoff & Joe A. Nagle recommending the building of one more fire cistern on Nut Pecan St. was read and ordered to lay over to next meeting. A petition from Job. Smiet was read, praying to have the money refunded, paid by him for a license on Gift Enterprises The petition was referred back for signature, and to state how long said busi- ness was open. On motion of Alderman Brueggerhoff it was resolved by the city Council of the City of Austin, that the salary for the month of March of policeman C. Staney be paid his widow on the first day of April, to enable her to erect a tomb stone for his grave, he having died from the effect of a shot wound received in the discharge of his duty on or about the 10th day of March 1877. On motion of Ald. Cullen it was Resolved by the city Council of the City of Austin. That the city Attorney be required to investigate the condition of the Claims of any and all persons claiming any of the public streets, Avenues Alleys and public squares of said city and report who made title to the same if any when made and to whom and also to investigate and Collate authorities upon the subject. Alderman Cullen introduced the following Resolution towit: Be it resolved by the city Council of the City of Austin. That hereafter no city warrant shall be issued to any person, who may be indebted to said City on account of taxes until after the amount of such taxes shall have been deducted from the amount.
