Pauper Care Proposal: Council referred a proposal from Jacob Fountain to house the city's poor at $42 per month to the Charity Committee for consideration.

46 The petition from T. R. Tooler was read, praying in behalf of Howes Great London Circus and Hippodrome for a reduction of license from $500.00 to $357.00 per day for their exhibition of said show. Ald. James moved that the petition be granted. Lost by the following vote: Yeas- Ald Goodale James and Larmour. Nays- Ald. Cook, Diffenbaugh, Robinson, Shucks and Taylor. Ald. Cook moved that a committee of three be appointed with instruction and authority to provid means for the payment of the coupons due on the first day of January 1875. Carried unaniminously. His Hon. the Mayor appointed on that committee Aldermen Cook Taylor and Robinson. A communication from Jacob Fountain was read proposing to keep and board all City's paupers at $42.00 per month in city warrants. Referred to Committee on Charity. On motion the Council adjourned. Fred Sterzing Recorder. Called Meeting of the City Council Austin Texas December 13th 1875. Mayor T. B. Wheeler in the chair, called the meeting to order, Roll called, Present: Aldermen A. H. Cook, A. Diffenbaugh, T. C. Goodale, D. A. James J. Larmour, J. H. Robinson and M. A. Taylor. The Mayor stated that the meeting was called, to reconsider the petition of Aler T. R. Tooler Agent of the Howes Great London Circus & Hippodrome. asking for a reduction of license for their exhibition of said show. Upon which Alderman Taylor offered the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: That we the City Council instruct the City Assessor and Collector to collect the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars in currency for the privilege of Exhibiting of the London Hippodrome within the City limits, said amo- --- Page break --- 47 amount to be collected for each days performance, and that said sum of money be only used for the liquidation of the coupons due on the first day of January 1875 On motion the Council adjourned, Fred Sterzing Recorder, Called Meeting of The City Council, Austin Texas December 28th 1875 Mayor T. Meeks The Mayor stated that the meeting was called to consider a petition from M. D. Mather, President of the City Water Company, Whereupon the petition was read, as follows: To the Hon. the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the city of Austin Gents.- The undersigned petitioners in view of the facts that they have been delayed in the construction and completion of their Works within the time specified in their contract with the City, on account of delays with contractors, transportation and unfavorable weather, and delays occasioned by the fact that the Works are now in progress of construction are far more extensive and complete than stipulated in the contract, hereby request of your Honorable Body that the time for the completion of said Works as per contract be extended to the first day of February 1875 M. D. Mather, President of City Water Co. The petition was granted by the following vote: Yeas- Aldrn. Cook Deffenbaugh, Goodale, James, Larmour, and Taylor, Alderman Cook introduced the following: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: That the Mayor be and is hereby authorized to apply so much of the sinking fund as may be necessary for paying the interest
