Called Meeting Council Chamber June 6th 1876 Council Met at 1:30 P.M. Mayor Wheeler in the Chair Roll called and the following Members answered, Aldermen Lohandler, Cook, Leffenburgh, Goodale, James Robinson and Taylor Absents Alderman Bremond, Lavenour and Sheke, Quorum present The Mayor informed the council that he had called them together for the purpose of taking action on lighting street lamps, whereupon Alderman Goodale presented a petition of John Condon asking that he be allowed to continue the lighting of the Street Lamps to the end of the present month, as he had laid in sufficient supply of Oil and his Employees was engaged to that time and he was compelled to pay them for the Month Alderman Leffenbaugh moved that Mr Condon be allowed to continue the lighting of the Street Lamps for the present Month Alderman Loook offered the following Amendment, Provided said Condon will agree to keep said lamps lighted to the satisfaction of the Street Committee and City Marshal. Council Chamber June 9° 1876 Council called to order at 1.15 P.M Mayor Wheeler in the Chair Roll called and the following members answered Aldermen Bremond Chandler, Cook, Deffenbaugh Goodale James Larmour, Robinson, and Taylor Absent Alderman Shults Quorum Present His Honor informed the Council that the object in calling them together was to take action on a petition presented by J Selva for license to be issued to him to sell spirituous and vinous liquors in Ward #1 Alderman Robinson moved that the petition be granted and the Mayor authorized to issue the same The Yeas and Nays being called the resolution was lost by the following Vote Yeas Aldermen Bremond, Deffenbaugh and Robinson Nays Aldermen Chandler, Cook, Goodale, James, Larmour and Taylor Alderman Chandler Moved that the Mayor and City Attorney be requested to examine the laws on the subject of License and the powers of the City Council to regulate and enforce the the same, and that the Mayor be authorized to employ additional Counsel if in his Judgment he dems it necessary Carried Alderman Bremond moved that the same course be pursued regarding the power and authority of the City Council to regulate or change the Tax assessment rolls from the amounts as given in by the property owners, also as to the authority of Council in regulating or prohibiting the erection of or repairs to wooden buildings in the fire limits, and that a report on the same be made to Council at the next meeting On Motion of Alderm Robinson the Council
