Austin Texas June 29th 1876 To the Hon the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Austin
Your Committee on Streets to whom was referred the petition of John Condon asking a continuance of his Contract with the City of Austin for furnishing oil, lighting extinguishing and keeping in repair the public street oil lamps. Respectfully report that they have carefully examined the matter and find that most of said lamps are on streets that receive but little improvements and in many places are in bad condition, and believing that the lamps are about the only benefit the people living on those streets have received, and that the light is in a great measure a protection to such people and a benefit to the citizens generally. Your Committee recommend that the contract as now existing between the City and John Condon, be continued and be in full force so long as said Condon fully and faithfully complies with the terms of said Contract. And that it shall be the duty of the Street Commissioner to make frequent inspections of said lamps during the time they are lighted. And he shall also make Monthly reports to the City Council of the

pertaining to the City. We have inspected the new grounds and while it has many objections for the purpose for which it was purchased. We feel compelled to recommend the grounds to be fenced with a good substantial fence, and the lots disposed of as they may be called for. We herewith hand you an estimate of the cost of fencing and repairing the entire grounds and feel confident the costs can be met by the sale of lots. We find the number of lots represented on the plat at 140 If these are sold for a moderate price they will meet all necessary expenses and make all necessary repairs. The aggregate cost we find to be between five and six hundred dollars. Your committee would suggest the county be required to make arrangements for her paupers by purchasing a suitable number of lots Respectfully submitted and recommend the adoption of report
