Council called to order at 4:10 P.M. J.W.Chandler President of the Board of Aldermen in the chair Roll called and the following members answered Aldermen Cork, Saffenbaugh, Goodale, James, Larmour, Robinson and Taylor, Absent Aldermen Desmond and Shute Quorum present The president informed the council that they had been called together for the purpose of taking action on the report of the Police Committee to whom was refered the charges preferred by the City Marshal against Police Officer J W Lane. Whereupon the Committee submitted the following report, together with the testimony taken in the case

To the Hon City Council of the City of Austin Your Committee on Police to whom was referred the matter of investigating the charges preferred by the City Marshal against Police Officer J.W. Lane, Have the honor to report that they have performed the duty assigned them, by taking the testimony of all the witnesses presented by both parties, and find from the evidence that the charges have been sustained, Your Committee respectfully recommends that Police Officer J.W. discharged from the Police force from this date of this resolution, Aug 9th 1876 Carried By Alderman Robinson, Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, That an additional Policeman be added to the present police force and that said Policeman be stationed in Ward No 1 The Yeas and Nays being ordered the Resolution passed by the following vote, Yeas Aldermen, Cook Keffenbaugh, Goodale, James and Robinson Nays Alderman Garmon and Taylor By Alderman Taylor. Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin that the Chief of Police be required to report each dereliction of duty of any Policeman, in order that a more perfect system of Police may be obtained Carried By Alderman Robinson. Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin that the Mayor be authorized to advertise for three days, for proposals for covering the bridges at the intersections of Congress Avenue and Pecan Street and the bridge at the intersection of Bois d'Arc Street and Congress Avenue with good first class Culcasieu or Florida Pine Lumber, to be at least three inches in thickness, to be paid for in City Warrants when said work is accepted by the City Engineer and Street Committee Carried By Alderman Cook. Council called to order at 4.20 P.M. by Alderman Shuks and on his motion Alderman Cook was called to the Chair Roll called and the following members answered Alderman Cook. Deffenburgh. James. Durman. Robinson and Shuks. Absent Aldermen Dromond, Goodale and Taylor Quorum found On motion of Alderman Shuks the City Marshal was directed to bring in the absentees The Journals of the Meeting of August 9th was read and adopted Alderman Taylor came in and answered Petition of L. D. Week. asking that the Ordinances forbidding the running at large of Cattle within certain portions of the City be enforced or repealed. or so amended as to authorize him without fine to fire his double barrele Shot gun Ten times each night On motion of Alderman Shuk the petition was referred to the City Attorney and City Marshall The president of the Board came in and took the chair and Alderman Goodale came in and answered Petition of Hope Hook and Ladder Company asking that an appropriation be made to purchase the necessary Furniture for their Meeting room. On motion of Alderman Cook the petition was referred to Committee on Fire Department Petition of Townsend and Anderson, asking payment for mason work Excavating and filling in the walls at the foot of Congress Avenue and Bridge on Shoal Creek On motion of Alderman Taylor the petition was referred to Committee on Finance with power to act Petition of H. Hirschfeld. Stating that he is the owner of Lots No. 9. 10. 11. & 12 in Block No. 162. and that a deep gully has been washed in the Street. so that when it rains the water overflows his Lots and is ruining his property and asking that the Street may be fixed in such a manner so as to turn the water from his property On motion of Alderman Shuks the petition was

Council called to order at 12.25 P.M. J. W. Chauder President of Board of Aldermen in the Chair Roll called and the following members answered Aldermen. Drummond. Cook. Diffenbaugh. Jennus. Robinson and Taylor. Absent Aldermen Goodale. Garmon and Shutts Quorum present. The President informed the council that he had called them together for the purpose of informing them that the tower of the Fire Alarm Bell was in a dangerous condition and immediate action was necessary. either the bell should be removed or the tower repaired. Whereupon Alderman Taylor introduced the following Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin That the Committee on Fire Department together with the City Engineer be instructed to inspect the old Fire Alarm Bell tower and ascertain if it can be repaired and if so, what will be the cost of the necessary repairs. Also to procure an estimate of the cost of removing the Fire Alarm Bell from its present fixture and place the same on the City Market House.
