Called Meeting of City Council
Council Chamber September 18, 1876 The Council was called to order at 8 oclock P.M. Mayor Wheeler in the Chair Roll Called and the following Members answered Alderman Bremond, Chandler, Cook, Deffenbaugh, Goodale James and Larmour. Absent Aldermen Robinson Shuts and Taylor. Quorum Present The Mayor informed the Council that they had been called together for the purpose of taking further action on Ordinance #86 which passed to its second reading at the last Meeting (Sept 9th) The Ordinance was then read the second time and passed to its third reading by the following vote Yeas Aldermen Bremond, Chandler, Cook, Deffenbaugh Goodale James and Larmour Nays None Alderman Goodale moved that the rules be suspended and put the ordinance on its third reading Carried by the following vote Yeas Aldermen Bremond, Chandler, Cook, Deffenbaugh Goodale James, and Larmour. Nays None The Ordinance was read third time and passed by the following vote Yeas Aldermen Bremond, Chandler, Cook, Deffenbaugh Goodale James and Larmour Alderman Bremond Moved that Aldermen Chandler and Shuts and the Mayor be authorized and empowered to make such settlement or compromise with [illegible] as they may deem best in the suit brought by the said [illegible] against the City of Austin and now pending in the District Court Carried by the following Vote Yea Aldermen Bremond, Chandler, Cook, Deffenbaugh Goodale, James and Larmour Nays None By Alderman Chandler. Quorum present The Mayor informed the council that he had called them together at the request of J.J. Brown, the lessee of the old Mills property. Mr Brown being present stated that he desired the Council to grant him further time to comply with the terms of his lease, that he had every assurance of success in completing the Mills and supplying it with all necessary Machinery if the council would extend the time to June next Alderman Sheets introduced the following Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Alvstin, That the time for complying with the terms of the Contract Made with J.J. Brown on the 18th day of February 1875 for the Construction of a Cotton and Woolen Mill be extended until the first day of June 1877
