Called Meeting of City Council March 19, 1877
The council was called to order at 3.30 oclock P.M. Mayor Wheeler in the Chair Roll called and the following members answered Aldermen Cook, Deffenbaugh, Goodale, James Larmore, Robinson and Rose Absent Aldermen Bremond Robinson and Taylor Quorum present The Mayor informed the council that he had called them together for the purpose of receiving the report of the committee appointed at the last Meeting to locate Fire Hydrants and to draw up an Ordinance governing the same, and to confer with a committee from the Bridge Company regarding the repairing of the foot of Congress Avenue The committee from the Bridge Company being present General Sudlow in their behalf stated that they wished the city to take immediate steps to repair the street at the approach of the Bridge and to erect a Stock Fountain near the Bridge Alderman Cook moved that the whole matter be referred to the Committee on Streets and the Mayor Carried The Mayor asked the committee to meet at the foot of Congress Avenue at 10 oclock A.M. tomorrow (March 20) Report of Committee Austin March 19th 1877 To the Hon Mayor and City Council Your Committee appointed to locate Fire Hydrants and prepare an ordinance governing the same have chosen to report that they have performed the duty assigned them and herewith submit an Ordinance and recommend its passage Respectfully submitted Mo a Taylor Ab H Cook Jr J H Robinson On Motion the report was received.

Austin Texas March 19th 1877 To the Hon Mayor and City Council of the City of Austin Gentlemen I am directed by the City Water company to inform your honorable body, that they cannot accept the Ordinance just passed as it conflicts with their Contract in several particulars Very Respectfully M S Mather President City Water Co On motion of Alderman Darmour the commu- nication was referred to the Committee on Location of Hydrants By Alderman Cook. Resolved that the City Marshal purchase one Dog chains for the benefit of the City Council, not to exceed in cost more than Twenty five dollars on motion of Alderman Read the resolution was laid on the table

Quorum present On motion of Alderman James the absent= ees was sent for On Motion of Alderman Goodale the rea= ding of the Journal was dispensed with Mayor Wheeler came in and on taking the chair informed the Council that he had called them together for the purpose of laying before them certain ordinances for their consideraation and to receive the report of the committee to whom was transferred the communication of the President of the City Water Company declining to accept the proposition contained in an ordinance passed at last meeting By Alderman Taylor. An Ordinance Authorizing the building of a Sewer and to im prove the Gullies at the foot of Congress Avenue, and to make an appropriation for the same The Ordinance was read and passed to its second reading Alderman Cook moved to suspend the rules and put the ordinance on its second reading The Motion to suspend the rules carried unanimously
