225 On motion the council adjourned John J. Roberts City Clerk Called Meeting of City Council March 20, 1877 The Council was called to order at 3:50 Oclock P.M. Alderman McA Taylor in the Chair Roll called and the following Members answered. Aldermen Bremond, Cook, Deffenbaugh, Goodale, James, Ross and Taylor Absent Aldermen Chandler, Larmour, and Robinson. Quorum present On motion of Alderman James the absent- ees was sent for On Motion of Alderman Goodale the rea- ding of the Journal was dispensed with Mayor Wheeler came in and on taking the chair informed the Council that he had called them together for the purpose of laying before them certain ordinances for their consideraation and to receive the report of the committee to whom was transferred the Communication of the President of the City Water Company declining to accept the proposition contained in an ordinance passed at last meeting By Alderman Taylor, an Ordinance Authorizing the building of a Sewer and to im prove the Gullies at the foot of Congress Avenue, and to make an appropriation for the same The Ordinance was read and passed to its second reading Alderman Cook moved to suspend the rules and put the ordinance on its second reading The Motion to suspend the rules carried unanimously --- Page break --- 226 The ordinance was read the second time and passed to its third reading Alderman Cook Moved to further suspend the rules and put the ordinance on its third reading The Motion to further suspend the rules carried unanimously. The Ordinance was read the third time Alderman Cook moved that the ordinance do pass The Yeas and nays ordered and the ordinance passed by the following Vote Yeas Alderman Bremond, Cook, Goodale, James Rosh and Taylor By Alderman Taylor, Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, That the Fire Alarm Bell be removed and placed on the front of the City Market Hall and that the Fire Committee be authorized to Contract for the same Carried unanimously By Alderman Rosh. An Ordinance prohibiting Licensed Vehicles used in the transportation of Merchandise from standing on certain Streets while unem- ployed The Ordinance was read and passed to its second reading Alderman Armour and Robinson came in and answered present Alderman Goodale moved to suspend the rules and put the ordinance on its second reading (the ordinance was read for the information of the members just come in) The Motion to suspend the rules and put the ordinance on its second reading carried Unanimously The Ordinance was read the second time and passed to its third reading Alderman Cook moved to further suspend the rules and put the ordinance on its third reading. City Clerk Called Meeting of City Council March 26 1877 Council called to order at 2:45 P.M. Mayor Wheeler in the Chair Roll called and the following Members answered Aldermen Chandler. Deffenbaugh. Goodale. James. Larmour. Robinson Root and Taylor Absent Aldermen Bremond and Cook Quorum present The Mayor informed the Council that he had called them together for the purpose of laying before them a Petition from Olof Garden proprietor of the Capital Theater asking for a permit for certain purposes which he had declined to grant. And to submit the specifications made by the City Engineer for the building of the Sewer at the foot of Congress Avenue. Also to take such action relative to the location of Fire Hydrants Stock Fountains and extending the time for the completion of the Reservoir that will be just to both the City and Water Company. Alderman Taylor moved that the Ordinance passed on the 20th ult for the location of Fire Hydrants Stock Fountains and extending the time for the completion of the Reservoir, be reconsidered as said Ordinance did not fully meet the object desired and that the Ordinance had not been approved The Yeas and Nays ordered and the
