Called Meeting of City Council Austin Texas November 12, 1878.
Mayor De breas Presiding. Roll call is. Present. Aldermen Brown, Holy, Hill, Mason, Sheehan, Strong, M Vaughan, Ungrum present.
The Mayor stated that he had called the Council together for the purpose of suggesting the propriety of employing law Special Policemen to act as detectives during the stay of the Circus in the City on the 16th inst. and to preserve the peace on that day and night.
The following resolution was then introduced: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin. That the City Marshall be and he is hereby authorized, by and with the consent of the Mayor, to employ ten efficient men to act as Special Policemen, from 8 O'Clock A.M. on Saturday the 16th until 8 O'Clock A.M. on Sunday the 17th inst. at a rate of compensation not to exceed three dollars per day. Resolution adopted. Moved by Alderman Rayen that the Annual Report of the Mayor for the past fiscal year and accompanying reports be pub- lished in all the City papers. Carried. Moved by Alderman Strong, that the Mayor be authorized to have 500 copies of his report published in pamphlet form. Motion lost. The following resolution was presented by Alderman Coom. "Whereas it is represented, that several parties are in possession of lots or parts of lots in the City Cemetery, by the burial of their friends on the same, who have not paid for them. Be it therefore resolved, That all lots or parts of lots so held, if not paid for, by those claiming them within sixty days, shall be declared vacantly and offered for sale, and that the City Assessor and Collector notify all persons who have their friends buried on such lots or parts of
