Regular Meeting of City Council Austin, Tx. August 04, 1879. Mayor De Gress presiding. Roll called; present, Aldermen Lenox, Crocker, Millett, Metz, Platt, Raven and Strong. Quorum Present. Alderman Crocker moved a call of the coun-cil. The call being sustained by three, the marshall was dispatched for the absentees.
The minutes of the meetings of July 7- 10, and 21 were read and approved. Aldermen Sheehan and Vaughn appeared and answered to their names and on motion, the call was suspended Petition of J.J. Neavitt, asking one- -half of his ad valorem taxes for 1877, on certain property purchased by him from Mr. McDonald, be remitted. On motion, the petition was laid on the table. Petition of R.F. Campbell for cor- -rection of erroneous assessment of taxes for 1876 was granted. Resolution authorizing the Mayor to make a quit claim deed to the south-half of lot 5 and one-sixth of lot (6) Six in Block (73) Seventy-three, without payment, the same to be countersigned by the collector. Resolution read first, second and third times and passed under a suspension of the rules, two-thirds of a full council vot-ing in the affirmative. Petition of citizens for a stock trough on West Pecan street. Referred to street committee. Reports of city marshall, assessor and collector, treasurer and city sexton & city physician received and ordered filed Report of G. Lenox, as follows In reference to the communication of J. H. Raymond concerning the change of his west line of fence to the east line of the street running north and south will necessitate a little grading near the south end or where it connects with Pecan

Alderman Crow moved that the city marshall be instructed to open the street named in the petition and place the same in a passable condition. Carried. On Motion the city marshall was instructed to [strikethrough] inform R. Bertram, Esq. that a certain causeway in the seventh ward built by him, and guaranteed for five years, was out of repair, and to re-quest him to repair the same. Alderman Platt, for the ordinance committee, offered the following report: To the Mayor and Board of Aldermen: Your committee, to whom was referred an ordinance providing for the mana-gement and protection of the rights and pro- -perty of city water company, would beg leave to report that it do not pass for the follow-ing reasons: We are of the opinion that the ordinances now in force affords them ample protection. and the petition laid upon the table. On motion, Alderman Crow was ex- -cused from further attendance at this meet-ing. Account of J.J. Campbell for $30.00 Thirty -six dollars for extra work performed by him in the removal, to the market house, of the city clock and tower. On motion, the account was referred to a special committee consisting of Aldermen Millett, Platt, and Sheehan. By Alderman Strong - the following resolution which was adopted: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, That a stock-water- trough be established and maintained at some point to be selected by the Fire com-mittee, north of Walnut street, in the seventhward, and the mayor is hereby authorized to enter into contract with the City Water Company for said stock water trough. That the fire hydrant located on East Avenue, near Blind Asylum, be transferred to some point in block 55, division B, and changed into a stock water through, and the fire committee is hereby charged with superintending the removal of the same. An ordinance amending an ordinance entitled. "An ordinance for the relief of per-sons whose property has been sold for taxes and bid in to the city." Read first, second and third times and passed un- -der a suspension of the rules, two-thirds of a full council voting in the affirma- -tive. Mr. Gillett was granted permission to put up a waste trough at Mr. Monroe Miller's livery stable, in the alley between Congress Avenue and Brazos street.
