AusDin, Dyan March 29 1882 Hon A D Dayzon Mayor of the City of Austin Dear Sir. Yours of the 24 of March addressed to me as Chairman of the finance committee of the late City administration is received saying that the City Treasurer had advised you that the finance committee of the late City administration have in their possession $6000 per cent bonds redeemed and cancelled also asking what amount if any of called sev. and cancelled City warrants remain in the hands of the said finance committee in reply I have to inform you that nothing of the kind ever passed in or through my hands during the time I was one of that committee. I remember that a report was made by two account ants (Messrs Glenn and Denney) employed by the finance committee by authority of the Council to examine the books, and papers of all the City offices when Mayor De Gress retired from office. The report was addressed to me as Chairman and a small tin box said to be sealed and to contain cancelled city warrants and perhaps bonds was presented to me by mayor Crocket. In the presence of the Council that it said to be addressed to me as chairman of the finance committee and I suggested that it be placed with the City Clerk and kept in their safe as I intended when the box was opened that it be done in the presence of the City Council and as there was no objections made to my suggestion the mayor directed the City Clerk to take charge of it. The City Clerk (E B Connell) told me afterward that Dr. Tobin a member of the finance committee called for the box and took possession of it and I think Dr. Tobin told me himself that he had the box I know nothing further about it and what the box contained I know not. Respectfully Joseph Nalle. On motion of Alderman Bruggenhoff the council adjourn ed. J. G. Burman City Clerk
