Called Meeting of the City Council Austin Texas May 16” 1882

Roll call present Aldermen Kinney Schuber Bruggerhoff Plath.
Alderman Schuber moved a call of the Council motion sustained and the Marshal sent after the absentees.
Alderman Radkey Netz and Voelker came in and answered to their name. Wilson late in the morning evening. A fine of one dollar was entered against Aldermen Cook & Leuppert for non attendance at this meeting. Call of the Council read which was for the consideration of the per centum of the tax for the year 1882, and such other business as might be called to your attention
Minutes of the Called meeting of May 8th 1882 was read and approved.
An Ordinance fixing the per centum of Advalorem tax for the year 1882 And setting a part one tenth of the amount collected for hospital purposes was called up and read third time.
Alderman Bruggerhoff offered an Ordinance granting the Austin and Northwestern R.R. the right of way through the City of Austin to the Capitol and University ground. On motion of Alderman Voelker the rules were suspended by a two third vote and the Ordinance read second time. Alderman Kinney moved to refer the ordinance to a special committee of three. Motion adopted. The Mayor appointed the following as the committee Kinney, Voelker & Plath.
A letter was received from A H Swanson Gen, Superintendent of the H & T. C. R. R proposing that if the City would releave the H & T. C. R. R from grading Pine Street that the R. R. would lower the bridge over waller creek to any grade that the City Engineer may see necessary to make the same fit for bridge and foot bridge.

Alderman Bruggerhoff offered the following Resolution which was adopted Resolved that the Mayor appoint a special committee of three members of the City Council to locate all the Fire Hydrants on the present and new addition of the Water mains as required by the new contract with the City Water Company. The Hon the Mayor appointed the following aldermen as the Committee Bruggerhoff Platt and Goetz.
The following is the report of the City Engineer which was adopted. Austin Texas May 16th 1884 Hon. R. Platt Chairman of the street Committee Dear Sir I have the honor herewith to report an estimate of the cause of rebuilding the old wooden sewer at the foot of Congress Avenue The actual work to be done is Arch culvert 150 feet long. of stone 880. perch @ $3.75 per perch $3300.00 For removing debris & preparing foundation $170.00 For filing it with dirt $500.00 Total $4000.00 Also for building the north west wing of the west abutment to the bridge on East Pecan Street over Waller Creek 65 1/2 perch @ $2.75 $180.00 I would also call your attention to the dangerous condition of most of the bridges throughout the City both foot and carriage some of the foot bridges have been removed entirely and several others will have to be removed unless repaired very soon. 140 The following resolution was introduced by alder man Plath which was adopted Whereas The International & Great Northern R Road Company have laid the track of said road across avenue street in the City of Austin in violation of law and without the consent of the City Council first having been obtained and in contempt of the authority of the City. Now therefore we the members of said council feeling it to be a duty we owe to the people we represent do hereby denounce said act of said company as oppressive dangerous and injurious to the rights persons and property of the people and therefore be it resolved that the attention of the Mayor, and City Attorney be called to said conduct of said Company and that they be hereby instructed to institute such proceeding of law as may be deemed proper to restrain and punish said illegal act of said Company and to sue and recover all and singular such damages as the City may be entitled to by reason of said premises Radcliff Smith Wm Brueggerhoff F Schubler J Radkey
Alderman Brueggerhoff offered and Ordinance appropriating Two hundred and fifty dollar to Gray Engine Bremond and due for Washington Engin Co. for building for the month of April and May 1857 which was read first time, motion made to table the ordinance was lost. Alderman Nelson came in and answered to his name Alderman Brueggerhoff offered and Ordinance appropriating for the expenses of the Fire Department for the month of April May June July August Sept and October 1856 which was read first time Alderman Brueggerhoff moved to suspend the rules and place the Ordinance on its second reading motion lost yeas Schuber. An Ordinance repealing an Ordinance passed March 6th 1857 restricting improvements on the streets except by City Prisoners and City Carts was introduced and read first time. The Ordinance was read second

Alderman Bruggerhoff offered and Ordinance appropriating Two hundred dollars for the purpose of rebuilding wing and abutments, of Iron bridge over Water creek in each specau strick. Said work to be done under the supervision of the Street Committee and City Engineer which was read first time, and read second and third time under suspension of the rules, and on motion of Alderman Noetz passed by the following vote Yeas Grace, Noetz, Kinney, Shuber, Bruggerhoff, Radtkey. Alderman Kinney offered and Ordinance appro priating $167.94 for approved accounts, including interest on warrants called in May 1st 1890. which was read first time. On motion of Alderman Bruggerhoff the Ordinance was referred back to the Finance Committee
The following is the report of the special com mittee to whom was referred the duty of disposing of the property of the City at the smallpox camp. The report was adopted and the committee was discharged To the Honorable Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Austin We the committee to whom was referred the duty to dispose of the contents of the smallpox camp, beg leave to report that we have attended to that duty, and on Friday March 8th 1889 sold the same to the Highest bidder, the amount received from sales, amounted to the sum of one hundred and fifty eight dollars and forty five cents. Out of the same the guards were paid for 15 days @ $3.00 $50.00 Leaving a balance of $108.45 Which amount was turned over to the City ass. and Coll. and the receipt herewith deposited with the City Clerk.
