Austin Inspects Capitol Building Safety

Capitol Building Safety Inspection Ordered: The city council voted unanimously to appoint a three-person committee (including the city engineer and two expert citizens) to inspect the Temporary Capitol Building and report on whether it was safe to use.

Coordination with State: The committee was instructed to work with a similar committee appointed by the State of Texas to conduct the joint inspection and deliver their findings to the mayor as quickly as possible.

Committee Members Named: Mayor Clark appointed William Von Rosenberg, J.K. Robinson, and J.K. Pine (the city engineer) to conduct the safety review.

187 Called Meeting of the City Council Austin Texas Sept 9th 1882 Hon R Clark Acting Mayor Presiding Roll call present Aldermen Hartz Kinney Schuber Bruggenhoff Radkey Kurputz Norther Pease Wilson Absent Alderman Cook Call of the Council read which was for the consideration of Business connected with the condemnation of State Temporary Capitol Building, Alderman Norther offered the following resolution Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin that the Mayor be and is hereby instructed to appoint a committee of three consisting of the City Engineer and two expert Citizens to act in conjunction with the Committee appointed by the state of convenient to examine and report the safety of the Temp orary Capitol under the authority granted to the City Council by the Charter of the City of Austin Article 6 Section 22 Section 2 That the Committee shall report to the Mayor as soon as practicable Section 3 That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the President of the Capitol Board The resolution was amended by inserting after the word (by the State of Texas) if convenient The yeas and nays being Called the resolution was adopted by the following vote Yeas Aldermen Hartz Kinney Schuber Bruggenhoff Radkey Kurputz Norther Pease Wilson In accordance with the above resolution the Mayor appointed the following as the committee Wm Von Rosenberg J K.
