Austin Election Dispute and Police Appointments

Tuesday, October 31, 1882 special called

Election Postponement Rejected: City Council voted to proceed with scheduled November 7, 1882 elections for City Marshal and school tax decision, rejecting aldermen's request to reschedule the vote.

Citizens Petition Against Delay: Austin residents formally protested the proposed postponement of city elections, and the council received their petition and sided with the public's wishes.

New Police Officers Appointed: The mayor nominated Henry Brown and Henry Bannbruche as special police officers, and the council unanimously confirmed both appointments.

Attendance Penalties: Three aldermen (Cook, Kuepperitz, and Kinney) were each fined one dollar for missing the October 31st meeting.

211 Called Meeting of the City Council Austin Texas October 31, 1882 W A Daylor Mayor Presiding Roll call present Aldermen Schubin Bruggerhoff Radkey Moeller Platt & Wilson absent Cook Kuepperitz A fine of one dollar was entered against Alderman Cook Kuepperitz & Kinney for non attendance at this meeting. Call of the Council was read which was for the purpose of taking into consideration matters pertaining to the City Elections Reading of the minutes of Oct 25th 1882 postponed until next meeting. To Hon W A Daylor mayor of Austin Sir we the undersigned Aldermen respectfully request that you call a Special meeting of the City Council for the purpose of reconsidering the resolution ordering an Election of the City Marshal and sub mitting the school Tax question on the 7th day of Nov. 1882 H. W Moeller W B Metz W Wilson H B Kinney Alderman Bruggerhoff presented a petition from Citizens of Austin protesting against postponing the City Elections that was ordered November 7 1882 On motion of alderman Bruggerhoff the petition was received and ordered filed Alderman Bruggerhoff moved that the Council take no action in regard to postponing the City Elections Motion adopted by the following vote yeas Aldermen Schubin Bruggerhoff Platt Wilson Shep Radkey and Moeller. absent Aldermen Cook Kuepperitz. The mayor nominated Henry Brown and Henry Bannbruche as special Police officers The nominations were confirmed by acclamation On motion of alderman Bruggerhoff the Council adjourned Read and approved Nov 20 1882 [illegible] L Purnell City Clerk
