Austin Council Fines Absent Aldermen 1882

Friday, December 8, 1882 special called

Attendance Crisis: Five aldermen were absent from the December 8th meeting, resulting in $1 fines per person for non-attendance—a disciplinary measure meant to enforce accountability.

Failed Quorum: Despite sending the city marshal to locate the missing aldermen, the council couldn't gather enough members present to conduct official business.

Meeting Adjourned: Unable to reach a quorum, the council voted to adjourn the session without addressing any scheduled agenda items, making it a largely unproductive gathering.
