252 Regular meeting of the City Council Austin January 15, 1883 From J A Sugor Mayor Prest Roll call present Aldermen Lawrance Schuibrn Bruggir hoff Houllin Black and Wilson A Fine of one dollar was entered against Alderman Heitz Kinney Raalry & Fenling for non attendance at this meeting The minutes of Dec 15 1852 and Jan 3 1853 1853 were read and approved A Petition was received from M Dillorrea asking that the Council grant to him the right to erect a fruit stand on the corner of lot 8 Block 7. Petition referred to the Street Committee. The following report was received from the City Engineer which was adopted and the Street Committee instruct to report an ordinance to the council to cover the amount asked for Austin Jan 10 1853 To R Blach Chairman of the street committee Dear Sir, Upon having made a thorough exam ination of the streets of Austin I would most respectfully ask for an appropriation of one thousand and seventy five ($1075) dollars to put the street in a passable condition First ward $100 Second ward $200 Third ward $150 Fourth and fifth wards $150 Sixth ward $150 Seventh ward $150 Eighth ward $100 Ninth ward $75 - Tenth ward $50 - Total $1075 Respectfully submitted J.K. Pirrall City Engineer As the finance Committee was not ready to report on papers referred to them the committee was granted further time Alderman Lawrance offered the following --- Page break --- report of the Cemetery Committee The Riley proposes that if the City will fence and improve his 20 acre tract he will give the City one half of the proceeds of the sale of lots Riley proposes to make, with to purchase and turn over to the City half of the money. Price of lots to be agreed upon between him self and the City. J W Lawrence Cemetery Commissioner Jan 10th 1858 The report was referred to the Special Committee on Cemetery and on motion the City Attorney was added to the Committee Alderman Mclvin offered the following resolution which was adopted Whereas the Contract for the City Printing has expired and a new contract to be made for the next twelve months. Therefore Be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin That the Mayor be and is hereby instructed to advertise for bids and after receiving the same he shall refer the same to the printing committee for further action and report to the City Council at the next regular meeting. Alderman Bumggerhoff offered the follow ing Resolution which was adopted. Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin That the committee on Fire Department be and is hereby instructed to submit an ordinance at the next regular meeting regulating the construction repairs and preparations for awnings within the fire limits of the City of Austin. Alderman Death offered the following resolution which was adopted. Be it resolved by the City Council that the City Marshall and City Attorney are hereby instructed to ascertain by what authority the various fruit stands have been erected on the --- Page break --- 254 sidewalks of the City and report their action to the next meeting of this council. A petition was received and Read from T. Everatt in regard to the accounts of Ed Creary for feeding the City Prisoners and City horses for the month of Dec 1882. The petition was referred to the Finance committee. Alderman Brueggerhoff introduced an ordinance amending art 470 section 1 of the revised ordinance of the City of Austin the same being in regard to the appointment of police officials. The ordinance was read first time and then referred to the police committee. Alderman Plann introduced the following resolution. Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin That the resolution passed Dec 28 1882 directing the City Treasurer to suspend the calling in of the 6% warrants till further orders and the same is hereby revoked. The resolution was amended by adding the words to take effect from the first day of March 1883 The resolution as amended was then adopted. Alderman Brueggerhoff offered the following resolution which was adopted. Be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin That the ordinance committee be, and are hereby instructed to submit an ordinance or an amendment to an ordinance in regard to the stock running at large, within certain [illegible] and limits of the City by the next regular meeting. Alderman Brueggerhoff introduced the following resolution which was accepted. Be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin That the regular paid employees of the Fire Department shall be placed on the regular pay roll of the City and their respective --- Page break --- salary, be deducted from the appropriation for the support of the Fire Department Alderman Moeller offered an ordinance authorizing the Mayor to purchase Horses, teams Harness &c. to be used in repairing the streets of Austin. The ordinance was read first time and then referred to the Police Committee and the City Marshall. Alderman Brueggerhoff introduced an Ordinance appropriating $80.00 to pay F. K. Roth for services rendered from March to Sept 1888 said amount having been deducted from the salary of H. F. Lally during that time, this ordinance was read first time and then went over to the next meeting. Alderman Plath offered the following resolution which was adopted. Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin. That the Mayor is hereby requested to appoint a committee of three alderman in connection with the City attorney to report at the next regular meeting by ordinance or otherwise what is necessary for the better protection of citizens from false measure of wood sold from wagons on the streets of Austin. His Honor the mayor appointed as the Committee Alderman Plath Schubert & Wilson. Alderman Plath moved to excuse all aldermen for not attending former council meeting Alderman Brueggerhoff moved to lay the motion on the table motion to table carried by the following vote yeas aldermen Lawrence Brueggerhoff and Moeller Nays aldermen Schubert Plath and Wilson it being a tie vote the Mayor voted yea On motion Alderman Moeller and Wilson were excused for not attending former council meeting and the fines imposed against them remitted on account of sickness and absence from the City --- Page break --- 256 On the recommendation of Alderman Platt the Mayor nominated Mr. Tyler as special police office. The mayor also nominated Mr. Caccistor as a special Police officer the nominations were confirmed by acclimation Read and approved Feb 7th 1888. S. S. Bunnell City Clerk
