Alderman G.L. Robertson moved that the Council come to order, and that Alderman Crooken take the Chair motion adopted,

The following call of the Council was read To the members of the City Council of the City of Austin. A special meeting of the City Council is hereby called to assemble at the City Hall this Saturday evening June 14th 1884 at 8 oclock to canvass the votes in the recent election for Mayor and to install the mayor elect and to transact any other appropriate business Austin Texas June 14th 1884 Geo L Robertson 8 ward R. 547 The chair stated that the next order of business would be to canvass the returns from the Election held June 13 1884 and appointed as the committee to canvass the votes Aldermen Platt Pillow and Hill On motion the council took a recess of 5 minutes Alderman Crooker called the council to order. Alderman Wells moved that the council proceed to elect a President of the Board of Aldermen and nominated Alderman Crooker Alderman Platt in the chair Alderman Brush moved to postpone the election of a President of the Board of Aldermen The motion to lay Alderman Brush's motion on the table was carried by the following vote Yeas Aldermen Schneider Sutton Pillow Hancock Mills Underhill Dumble S C Robertson and Hill 7 Nays Aldermen Campbell Maas Odell Carrington Platt Ervin and Brush 7. The Committee appointed to canvass the votes submitted the following which was adopted Austin Texas June 14 1884 To the Hon. S. M. Crooker President Protem Your committee appointed to canvass the returns of the election held on the 13 day of June 1884 to fill the vacancy in the office of Mayor of the City Austin beg leave to report that they have canvassed the returns made by the judges of said election and find that the result of said election is as follows. There were cast at said election in all 2055. of which John W Robertson received 811 votes Jas Miller received 654 votes and Joseph Dummings received 588 votes and we therefore report that J W Robertson having received the greater number of votes cast for any candidate is duly elected to the office of Mayor of the City of Austin for the unexpired term occasioned by the resignation of the Hon. 548 Alderman Crooker moved that the chair appoint a committee of 3 to wait upon J W Robertson and notify him of his election as mayor of the City of Austin motion adopted. The chair appointed as the Committee Alderman Crooker Wells and Hancock.
Hon A. D. Walker Judge of the 17 judicial district of the state of Texas administered the oath of Office to J W Robertson as mayor of the City of Austin
Hon J. W. Robertson Mayor Presiding Alderman Wells moved that the council proceed to elect a president of the board of Aldermen motion adopted. Alderman L. M. Crooker was nomin- ated and confirmed as President of the Board of Aldermen of the City of Austin
On motion the mayor was authorized to order an Election in the 2d ward for one alderman of saidward to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of J. W. Robertson. And designated Egglings Stable as the place to open the polls, and June 27th 1884 as the time to hold said election A Kuss D. Eggling Henry Shelley were nominated and confirmed as Judges of said election
Article 665 Section 67 of the revised ordinances of the City of Austin in regard to the mayor appointing a board of Appraise and Equalization on motion of alderman Hill was referred to a special committee of 3. His Honor appointed as the Committee Aldermen Hill Hancock and Brush On motion the council adjourned T. E. Sneed City Clerk Read and approved June 16th 1884
