Aldermen Schubert and Underhill came in and answered to their names. Absent Alderman Robertson, Erwin On motion of Alderman Brush minutes of June 16 and 7th. 1884 was adopted
His Honor Presented the returns from the election held in the 6th ward on June 27, 1884 for one Alderman of said ward and appointed as the committee to canvass the returns Aldermen Maas and Wells. The Committee submitted the following report. To the Hon President of the Board of Aldermen of the City of Austin Your committee appointed to canvass the votes for alderman of the 6th ward at a special election held on the 27th day of June. Beg leave to report that Hon J. Warren received 37 votes. "J. M. Reeney" "8" " "J. M. Dosser" "1" "
Respectfully M. Maas B. C. Wells Committee His honor declared that J. Warren was elected alderman of the 6th ward. Mr. J. Warren came forward and his honor the Mayor administered to him the oath of office as alderman of the City of Austin. The petition of Fannie Byrne asking the council to remit fine imposed against him in the recorders court was laid on the table.

A communication was received from the assessor and collector, stating that the water Company refused to pay further ground rent for part of crown walk occupied by them, referred to the finance Committee.
The following majority report was received from the street Committee in regard to the removal of bridges on the avenue. To the Hon Mayor and Board of Aldermen Your Committee to whom was referred the the petitions of Citizens asking that the bridges on the within named streets be repaired and not removed as recommended by the City Engineer and the street committee. 569 adopted by your honorable body some months since, would most respectfully represent that we can see no reason for changing our opinion from our former expressed opinion on that question. In considering this question we have to take in consideration the annual cost the liabilities for damage from damage caused from broken and defective bridges. We would therefore ask that the petitions be not granted. Brush Alderman Hancock submitted the following as the proposition received by the Committee and approved by them Austin Texas June 20" 1884 Lewis Hancock Chairman Present Sir I hereby offer the sum of seven thousand five hundred ($7500.00) dollars for the west half of lots 7 & 8 in Block 69, in the City of Austin for which sum I will give my promissory note or notes without interest due January 1st 1885. The City to make a deed for said property now, retaining vendors lien and containing the conditions; that said property is to be used for Hotel purposes and that the erection of the hotel shall be begun on or before the first day of June A.D. 1885 and upon failure to comply with said conditions, then the City's deed is to become void, the said property shall revert to the City and the above named sum of $7500.00 also to remain the property of the City. Signed: J.S. Driekel Alderman Hancock introduced the following resolution Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, That the mayor is hereby authorized to convey to J.S. Driekel the west one half of lots 7 & 8 in Block 69 in the City of Austin according to the terms of the proposition approved by the Committee. Alderman Underhill moved to postpone the matter and refer it to a committee of five who shall report at the next meeting. The price lots can be purchased their location and the cost of erecting suitable buildings for the fire department motion lost. The resolution was read second time by a two thirds vote. Alderman Hill moved to amend by adding: That the City shall have

His honor stated that he had received an offer of 90 cents. for the City rent austin bonds it being the only bid received Alderman Wills moved that the Mayor and Finance committee be authorized to accept the bid offered for the Bonds. 90 cents. Motion adopted.
The Finance Committee introduced an Ordinance appropriating the sum of $61.57.63 to pay approved accounts to that amount. On recommendation of the mayor the fine assessed against H.W. Carlton in the recorders court for disturbing the peace was remitted
Alderman Hancock introduced the following resolution which was adopted Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin. That the mayor is instructed to enter into a contract with Washington Fire Company No1 according to the terms of the proposition of said Company.

The Special committee on Stable, submitted the following report which was ordered filed Austin Texas July 7th 1884 To the Hon. Mayor and Board of Alderman of the City of Austin Gentlemen Your committee appointed under an ordinance appropriating fifteen hundred dollars for the building of a Stable pur. chasing mules wagons implements &c beg leave to report. That we have had a brick stable erected 24 by 48 feet with stalls for six animals a large roomy loft for storing feed a tool room water closet and room for storing wagons at a cost of $975.00. We also purchased four mules wagon and harness complete and seventy five dollars which leaves a deficit of fifty dollars to finish paying for the stable. Our intention was to purchase but two mules but we had what we considered a bargain offered us in the four mules and wagon, and after mature consideration of the subject concluded to purchase the four mules and ask for the additional appropriation believing it to be for the best interest of the City to do so and we now ask that an additional fifty dollare be appropriated to meet the deficit before allow ed to your committee believe the City has got the full value of the fifteen hundred and fifty dollars which the stable mule wagon &c cost all of which is respectfully submitted J. Alderman Wells introduced the following resolution which was amended by by adopting The Police Committee. The Resolution was adopted. Be it Resolved That the mayor appoint a committee of three to investigate certain charges against Policeman Oberwerder on July 21 1884 His Honor appointed as the Committee Aldermen Wells Pillow and Warren with Police Committee.
