Petition Condon Alderman Claitz presented a petition signed Policeman by John Condon, W. R. Walker and others, asking that a policeman be appointed for that part of the city in and about the G. H. & W. R. R. depot and recommending J. W. Cassaway for the position. Referred to the police committee
Petition for Alderman Claitz presented a petition signed water trough by citizens asking that a water trough and Street lamp be located on the corner of Pecan st & East Avenue. near the north west corner of East avenue. Referred to the street committee.

company had been compelled to pay taxes on its property for the year 1864, claiming that said company was exempted from taxes upon by the terms of its contract with the city and asked that the taxes paid be returned to the company, and that the assessment against the company be stricken from the tax roll. G. W. Walling A proposition was received from G. W. Walling to sell land for to sell to the city for a cemetery, 230 acres of land cemetery 4 miles north of the city. Referred to the cemetery committee.
G. P. Heamann G. P. Heamann petitioned for $100.00 damages on account of injuries received by falling into a ditch on the corner of east ash and San Jacinto Street Referred to the ordinance committee
Nuisances The business men on Pecan Street between against Congress Avenue & Colorado Street petitioned obstructing to have the sidewalk kept unobstructed, by Pecan Street parties selling merchandise from wagons backed up to the Hub & Tones The city marshal was instructed to see that the sidewalk and street was kept unobstructed.
Fine of Gardiner On recommendation of the mayor, the balance & Hays remitted of the fine due the city by Gardiner & Hays was remitted
J. M. Ryder Alderman Brush presented a petition signed Rent. Public by J. M. Fire committee Alderman Crooker presented the following report on behalf of the Fire commissioners on the Petition of J. F. Brack (Austin Texas: August 28th 1885) We the Board of Fire commissioners, unanimously endorse the petition of A. Hardeman & J. F. Brackenridge in regard to a building erected on lot 7 Block No 66, in the fire limits of the City, provided that said building be covered with a metal or slate roof. A. W. Fire committee Alderman Crooker presented the following report of the Fire commissioners in regard to frame buildings inside the fire limits. Austin Texas August 28th 1885. To the Hon Mayor and City Council of the City of Austin: Gentlemen:— we the board of Fire commissioners of the city of Austin, have been informed of the fact that several frame buildings have been built of late within the fire limits of the City, and other frame buildings are now at the present time being erected within said fire limits, which is a direct violation of the city ordinances, and therefore we deem it necessary to petition your honorable body to require the city marshal to hereafter prompt ly report parties violating the ordinances in regard to the erection of such buildings

Regular order On motion the regular order of Business of business was suspended to take up the general approappropriation priation ordinances, Appropriating the sum of ordinances $4,621.05 for the payroll for Sept.br 1885 and approved accounts. The ordinance was read first time. On motion to suspend the rules and read the ordinance a second time was lost.
Resolution Alderman Heath introduced a resolution directing the city engineer to remove all dirt deposited on San Jacinta street, taken from an excavation and used for the foundation of a building for a private person On motion the resolution was laid on the table.
City marshal The report of the city marshal for august 1885 shows Total arrests, 106; Total fines assessed, $866.25; Cash from for Aug 1885 fines $368.40; worked out $267.35; Fines appealed, $70.80 Turned over to the county, $21.10; remitted by council, $9.50 due by escape, $54.85; Discharged by Doctors order, $7.70. Fire committee report on plans for Fire Dept. building
On committee Alderman Crooked presented the following report of the committee appointed to select Plans) for the Fire department building To his Honor, W. Robertson, and the city council of the city of Austin: The undersigned joint committee on building a house for H & L. No 1 and Colorado Co No 2 would most respectfully report and ask as follows: That they have selected a plan for the building and that bids have been advertised for same) as a whole, Upon opening the bids it was found that the plans as adopted by the committee could not be built for the amount which was appropriated by your honorable body, The committee then advertised for bids on materials, delivered on the place, which was taken into consideration with the labor necessary, when it was found that the same could not be built for the amount appropriated. In view of the above facts, and believing that the city desires a building which will be of some ornament, and suitable for the purpose for which it is intended, the undersigned would most respectfully ask that your honorable body appropriate one thousand & five hundred dollars additional making a total of $6000. Fire Com. Alderman Crooker submitted the following report rept. on new of the Fire committee on the petition of D.W. French hose asking for 2500 feet of new hose from J.W. Robertson. Your Fire Committee to whom was referred the above petition have had the same under consideration, and find that it is necessary to supply new hose and nozzels as asked for, and would recommend that the same be granted Crooker, Chairman Report adopted
Resolution Alderman Hill offered the following resolution minutes to Resolved, That the com'mitee on printing be be distributed and is hereby instructed to provide for the to citizens. distribution by private carriers or through the mails among the people of a number not exceeding 500 copies of the printed proceedings of the councils 2 such distribution shall be made to such citizens as shall be named by the mayor and members of the Board of Aldermen, each having the right to name twenty citizens to whom the proceeding shall be delivered. 3 The expenses of carrying out this resolution shall be paid by provision in the general appropriation ordinance from time to time as the same accrue. Alderman Brush moved to lay the resolution on the table. motion lost. On motion of Alderman Wells the resolution was adopted.
