454 A Called Meeting of the City Council Austin Tex July 12, 1886. Hon J. W. Robertson, Mayor, presiding. Roll Call- Present: Aldermen Anderson, Brush, Cooker, Cummings, Giesen, Halman, Odell, Pillow, Walker, Warren, Wellmer. 11. Absent- Aldermen Caldwell, Campbell, DeGress, Ervin, Jones, Metz, Schneider, Schuber, Wortham- 9. Alderman Walker moved a Call of the Council Adopted. Alderman Wortham, Jones, and DeGress Came in, and, on motion, the Call was Suspended. Mayor Robertson stated the object of the meeting was to Consider the pending Ordinances, propositions etc, relating to the City Cemetery and the purchase of a new Cemetery; and also to Consider any other matters that may be brought before the Council. The pending report of the Special Committee on Cemetery, favorable to the purchase of outlots 29 and 30, division D, was taken up and partly read, when Alderman Cooker, of the Committee, asked leave to withdraw the report. Granted. On motion, the Committee was discharged. Alderman Metz Came in. Alderman Anderson introduced a resolution instructing the mayor to purchase from J. H. Patterson the one hundred and twenty acres of land offered by him, at not exceeding $140 per acre, on such terms as the mayor may deem to be for the best interest of the City. Alderman DeGress presented written propositions from J. H. Patterson and Dr Stiles; the former Contained an offer to sell the 120 acres above mentioned for the sum of $16,800, deferred payments to bear 8 per cent interest; the latter agrees to sell 120 acres for $10,000 Cash, or on time at same price, deferred payments to bear 10 per cent interest. --- Page break --- July 12, 1886. They were read and laid over. Alderman Schuber Came in. Alderman T. Brush introduced as a substitute for the resolutions offered by Alderman Anderson, a resolution authorizing the mayor to purchase the Stiles property for a Cemetery. On motion the substitute was tabled by a rising vote of 11 to 5. Alderman DeGress moved to amend the resolution. Offered by Alderman Anderson by striking out the word "he" and inserting the word "mayor," in lieu thereof. No objection was made, and the resolution was, On motion adopted by a rising vote of 14 to 2. A petition from J.H. Patterson, requesting permission to use the public Square situated between Nueces and Trinity, and Pine and Cedar Streets, as a Cotton yard, was on motion tabled. Mayor Robertson appointed Aldermen Brush, Jones, and Odell as a standing Committee on Parks. He also appointed Aldermen Brush, Wortham and Pillow as a special Committee to superintend the numbering of Streets. An Ordinance appropriating $300 to pay balance due on building of East Austin Hose Cart Co. No. 4 and fifty dollars to pay cost of flooring the building of Protection H& L. Co. No. 3. was taken up on its third reading, and on motion, passed. An Ordinance appropriating $797.81, to pay approved accounts, was taken up on its third reading and, on motion, passed by the following vote: Yeas— Aldermen Anderson, Brush, Rooker, Cummings, DeGress, Giesen, Holman, Jones, Metz, Odell, Pillow, Walter, Wellmer Wortham — 14. Nays— Aldermen Schuber, and Mann 2. The Committee on fire department was relieved from reporting On the petition of L. Oehlinger. On motion the Council adjourned Milton Morris, City Clerk.
