462 A Called meeting of the City Council. Austin, Tex., July 29, 1886. Hon J. W. Robertson, Mayor, Presiding. Roll Call Present: Aldermen Anderson, Roll Call Brush, Caldwell, Campbell, Cummings, Gibson, Halman Jones, Odell, Walker, Wellmer, Wortham - 12. Absent - Aldermen Crocker, DeGross, Ervin, Metz, Pellow, Schneider, Schuber, Warren - 8. Call of Council Alderman Anderson moved a Call of the Council Adopted, and the marshal dispatched for the absentees. Aldermen Crocker and Schneider Came in, and, on motion, the Call was suspended. The Mayor's Call. Mayor's Austin Tex., July 29, 1886. Gentlemen of the City Council: I hereby Call a special meeting of the City Council to assemble at 8:30 this evening, for the Call purpose of taking into Consideration the resolution adopted at a Citizens meeting On Monday, July 26, 1886, asking that the Ordinance Submitting the issuance of bonds for Sewer purposes be so changed as to make the amount to be voted On $100,000 instead of $25,000 as provided in the Ordinance now in force. The election Comes off On Monday next, and it is deemed a matter of the very first importance that we Consider the wishes of the people in this respect before that date. I have therefore, to earnestly request each member of the Council to be in attendance promptly at the hour appointed. An Ordinance repealing the present Ordinances and an ordinance embodying the views expressed by the meetings, will be presented for action. Other matters of public interest may be presented, if desired by any member of the Council. Very Truly, Your Obedient Servant, J. W. Robertson, Mayor. Resolution The resolution passed at the Citizen's meeting from citizens was then read, as follows: meeting. Austin Tex., July 27, 1886. --- Page break --- July 29-86. To the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Austin: At a meeting held in this City on July 26, 1886, in reference to a proposed Sewer, the following resolution was offered, seconded and duly passed, viz: "Resolved, That this meeting request the City Council to amend the Ordinance Submitting to the people of the City of Austin the question of the issuance of bonds for the purpose of providing the City with a system of Sewerage, so as to make the amount of bonds to be issued ($100,000) One hundred thousand dollars, instead of ($25,000) twenty five thousand dollars." Respectfully, Geo. P. Warner, Secretary of said meeting Ord. repealing Alderman Caldwell then introduced the following $25,000 sewer named Ordinance which was read the first time and: An ordinance repealing an Ordinance ordering an election by the tax-paying citizens of the City of Austin, for the purpose of procuring their Consent to an extension of the bonded debt of the City of Austin beyond One hundred and twenty five thousand dollars; passed June 7, 1886, and approved June 9, 1886. Suspend Alderman Anderson moved to suspend the rules- lost rules, to place the ordinance on the second reading. Motion lost, by the following vote: Yeas- Aldermen Anderson, Brush, Caldwell, Roosters, Cummings, Giesen, Holman, Jones, Odell, Schneider, Walker, Wellmer, Wortham - 13. Nays- Alderman Campbell. adjourn- Alderman Rooser moved to adjourn. Defeated by a lost. rising vote of 6 to 8. Alderman Anderson moved a Call of the Council Adopted. Call Suspended Alderman Pillow came in, and, on motion, Suspend rules- the Call was suspended, and Alderman Pillow lost moved to suspend the rules and place the Ordinance on its second reading.
