Austin Tex November 23, 1886. Hon. J.N. Robertson, Mayor, presiding. Roll Call Present: Aldermen Campbell, Cummings, DeGress, Holman, Jones, Metz, Odell, Roll Schuber, Walker, Warren, Wortham - 11. Absent: Aldermen Anderson, Brush, Caldwell, Call Crocker, Ervin, Giesen, Pillow, Schneider, Nellmer - 9. Quorum present. The following was read: Call Austin, Nov. 22, 1886. Hon. J.N. Robertson, mayor of the City of Austin: Sir - We, the undersigned aldermen, respectfully request that you call a Special meeting of the City Council for tomorrow, at 7oclock, p. m. Nov. 23, to consider the advisability of appointing an additional set of Judges for each Ward. Respectfully, C.S. Metz, W.B. Walker, J.C. DeGress, J. Schuber, B.S. Pillow, T. E. Jones, R.J. Elected Alderman, DeGress moved to reconsider the vote Aldermen by which a resolution was passed providing for an election, to be held in the Several Wards of the City on Monday, December 6, 1886, for the purpose of electing Aldermen for the Several Wards, in place of those whose terms expire. Adapted. Ald. Schneider Aldermen Schneider and Wellmer Came in. Alderman DeGress then offered as a Substitute Substitute for the resolution, a resolution like the One above named, except that it provides for an election of a trustee for the public free Schools of the City in place of J.M. Brackenridge, resigned, and leaves the names of polling places and Judges of election blank. The Substitute was adopted. Judges Alderman Northam moved to amend the Substitute by inserting in the blank Spaces the names of Judges and polling places that are named in the resolution providing for the election on the question of increasing the bonded indebtedness of the City, which is to occur on December 6, 1886. Alderman DeGress moved to amend the Judges. amendment by adding that three additional Judges be appointed for each Ward. Lost by a vote of 5 to 8, and the motion made by Alderman Northam Carried. A motion was then made to adopt the resolution as amended. Adopted. On motion, the Council adjourned. Milton Morris, City Clerk.
