62 Minutes of a Regular Meeting of the City Council. Austin, Tex. Oct. 17. 1887. Hon. J. W. Robinson, mayor, presiding. Roll Call Roll Call. Present Aldermen Brush, Caldwell, Campbell, Fisher, Graham, James, Platt, Townsend, Walker, Warren - 10. Call. Absent - Aldermen Alexander, Anderson, Cummings, Metz, Odell, Phillips, Schneider, Schuber, Wollmer, Wortham - 10. Call of A quorum not being present Alderman Fisher Council moved a Call of the Council, which was duly Seconded and adopted. Ald. Alexander & Aldermen Alexander and Schuber were, on Schuber motion, excused, the former on account of Sickness, and the latter because of his absence from the City. Ald. Phillips Alderman Phillips Came in and the Call was Call Suspended. Suspended. Minutes. The minutes of the last meeting of the Council were adopted as printed. Veterans. Alderman Platt offered the following resolution, which was unanimously adopted: Whereas, the surviving Veteran Soldiers of the war with Mexico, from all the States of the union, will hold a reunion in the City of Fort Worth, on November 8, 9 and 10, 1887, and Whereas, the people of this City hold the Veterans of the war with profound respect and Veneration; therefore, be it Resolved, by the City Council, of the City of Austin, that the surviving Veteran Soldiers of the war with Mexico, who Shall attend the meeting at Fort Worth, be and they are hereby Cordially invited to visit the Capital of Texas, and to accept the friendly hospitality of this City. Resolved, further, that this invitation be presented through the Veterans of the Mexican War residing in this City who shall attend said meeting.

(63) Pine St. The Committee on Water & Gas presented a report on a petition from J.B. Barron, requesting that Pine Street be properly lighted and repaired between Brazos Street and the bridge between Sabine Street and East Avenue. The report recommends that at least two lights be placed on the Streets, but not until a new Contract is made for lights for Street purposes. No action was taken on the Report. Stall The Mayor stated that a party desired to rent a Stall in the City Market. On motion the matter was referred to the Committee on Markets, with power to act as they may deem proper in regard to the question. Ald. Schneider Alderman Schneider Came in. Alderman Brush presented a proposal from J.M. Snyder. J.M. Snyder offering to pay the City $25 per day for Public Square. each days use of the public Park on Fifth Street. The same to be used for Circus purposes. Alderman Brush made a motion Concerning the matter which the Chair requested him to reduce it and present in writing, pending which Alderman Jones moved to lay the whole matter on the table. Carried. Ald. Cummings Metz. Aldermen Cummings and Metz Came in. Alderman Platt Called for the Ordinance Greenwood Cemetery. providing for the establishment of a new Cemetery for the City of Austin, to be known as Greenwood Cemetery, and providing for the purchase of land therefor, and making appropriation to Carry the same into effect, approved July 21, 1886, and an Ordinance amending Section 8, of said Ordinance, approved April 22, 1887. Alderman Phillips moved that the Cemetery Committee to whom the Ordinance was referred under rule VII, page 423, of Revised Ordinances of the City of Austin Clerk be discharged from further Consideration of the Ordinance. The motion was adopted. after which the Ordinance was presented by Alderman Fisher and read a second time, following which a motion was made to suspend the rules and place the Ordinance on its third reading. which was lost by the following Vote:

64 Yeas - Aldermen Brush, Campbell, Fisher, Jones, Metz, Platt, Phillips, Schneider, Townsend - 9. Nays - Aldermen Caldwell, Cummings, Graham, Walker, Warren - 5. Oct. payroll. Alderman Walker introduced an Ordinance appropriating the Sum of $3.312 for the purpose of paying officers and regular employes of the City, and City and County hospital, each, for the month of October, 1887. The Ordinance was read, after which motions were made to suspend the rules and place the Ordinance on its second and third readings, and that the Ordinance do pass, all of which were adopted by the following Vote: Yeas - Aldermen Brush, Caldwell, Campbell, Cummings, Fisher, Graham, Jones, Metz, Platt, Phillips, Schneider, Townsend, Walker, Warren - 14. Adjourn. Alderman Walker then moved to adjourn. Lost Ald. Anderson. Alderman Anderson Came in. " Fisher Alderman Fisher sent to the Chair a resolution which was ruled out of Order. Adjourn. A motion was then made to adjourn but was rejected. Call Council. Alderman Fisher moved a Call of the Council which was duly seconded and adopted, and the roll was Called which developed the fact that the following named Aldermen were absent: Ald. Alexander, Anderson, Caldwell, Cummings, Odell, Schuber, Walker, Warren, Wellmer, Suspended Wortham.
