The minutes of a Regular Meeting of the City Council
Austin Tex., July 16, 1888.
Hon. Joseph Nalle, Mayor, presiding.
Roll Call. Present Aldermen Assmann, Boland, Caldwell, Campbell, DeGress, Jones, Linn, Phillips, Platt, Schneider, Nilsen, Northam - 12. Absent Aldermen Brush, Fisher, Graham, Haigler, Metz, Odell, Pillow, Townsend-8. The minutes of the last meeting of the City Council were adopted as printed.
Alderman DeGress presented a petition of Citizens requesting that ex-policeman H.G. Madison and L. Morris be reinstated. Referred to Police Committee and City Marshal.
Alderman Phillips presented a petition from owners and drivers of express delivery wagons, asking that they be allowed to park their wagons upon the side streets leading to Pecan Street and Congress avenue. Referred to the City marshal.
Report of the city treasurer from July 2 to July 16: Balance July 2 $4,047.16 Receipts 4,438.29 $8,485.45
Disbursements $5,551.62 Balance July 16 2,933.83 $8,485.45
Referred to Finance Committee.
A. Ziller Chief of Austin fire department, asked for further time in which to test the fire alarm System. Granted.
Alderman Phillips moved that the Finance Committee be authorized to approve the account of R. J. Loving for $70.00. Adopted.
Alderman DeGress introduced an Ordinance amending Article 70, Chapter 3, general provisions of the Civil Ordinances of the City of Austin. The purpose of the Ordinance is to provide for but one regular meeting of the Council per month - the first Monday

it was read first time, and laid over without further action. Alderman Wilson presented a proposal from Mr. J.G. Palm, in effect that he will give the City twenty burial lots of present size, and remove the fence and put same up in good order for the privilege of enlarging the City Cemetery about two acres of ground. Referred to a special Committee of three aldermen, to report at the next meeting of the Council Aldermen Campbell, Wilson and Schneider Compose the Committee. Alderman DeGress presented an Ordinance appropriating the sum of $3405 for the purpose of paying Officers and regular employes for the City for the month of July, 1888. Read first time and laid over without action. Alderman Platt presented an Ordinance appropriating $400 to enclose Market Square and build a shed on the same. Read first time and referred to Committee on Markets. On motion the Council then adjourned until 5 o'clock p.m., July 17, 1888. Milton S. Morris, City Clerk.

Absent - Aldermen Assmann, Boland, Brush, Caldwell, Fisher, Graham, Haigler, Jones, Metz, Phillips, Pillow, Platt, Schneider, Townsend, Wilson - 15.
Alderman Wortham moved a call of the Council Adopted
Mayor Nalle entered and took the Chair: On motion the Call was suspended and the roll called again, which resulted as follows. Present - Aldermen Assmann, Boland, Campbell, DeGress, Graham, Jones, Linn, Metz, Odell, Platt, Schneider, Townsend, Wilson, Wortham - 14. Absent - Aldermen Brush, Caldwell, Fisher, Haigler, Phillips, Pillow, 6.
Council An Ordinance amending Article 70, Chapter 2, general provisions of the Civil Ordinances of the City of Austin, was taken up on its second reading, and read, after which a motion was made to suspend the rules and place it on its third reading, which was adopted by a two-thirds vote of a full board. It was then read a third time and on motion passed. The Ordinance provides for but one regular meeting of the Council per month, which shall be held on the first Monday in each month.
July payroll. An Ordinance appropriating the sum of $3405. for the purpose of paying Officers and regular employees of the City for the month of July 1888, was taken up on its second reading and read after which a motion was made to suspend the rules and place it on third reading and that it pass, both of which were adopted by the following vote: Yeas - Aldermen Assmann, Boland, Campbell,

Kinney as a member of the Board of appraisement and equalization, and on motion he was confirmed by acclamation Aldermen The mayor presented an Ordinance repealing Articles 159, 160, 161, 162, 163, 164, 165, 166, 167, 168 and 169, title 5, Chapter 4 of the revised Civil Ordinances of the City of Austin. It was read first time after which a motion was made to suspend the rules and place the Ordinance on its second and third readings, and that it do pass; all of which were adopted by the following vote: Yeas- Aldermen Assmann, Beland, Campbell, DeGress, Graham, Jones, Linn, Metz, Odell, Platt, Schneider, Townsend, Wilson, Wortham - 14. The Ordinance repeals articles relating to the sale of property for taxes due. Art. 402. The mayor then presented An Ordinance, amending article 402, title 17 Chapter 2 of the revised Civil Ordinances of the City of Austin. It was read first time, after which motions were made to suspend the rules and place it on its second and third readings, and that it do pass; all of which were adopted by the following Vote: YeasAldermen Assmann, Beland, Campbell, DeGress, Graham, Jones, Linn, Metz, Odell, Platt, Schneider, Townsend, Wilson, Wortham - 14. The Ordinance provides that the City attorney Shall institute suit to recover property which has heretofore been sold to the City for taxes, and which remains unredeemed, provided two years have elapsed since date of sale. Art. 158. The Mayor also introduced An Ordinance, amending article 158, title 5, Chapter 4 of the revised Civil Ordinances of the City of Austin: It was read first time, after which motions were made to suspend the rules and place it on its second and third readings and that it do pass, all of which were adopted by the following Vote: Yeas - Aldermen Assmann, Beland
