Minutes of a Called Meeting of the City Council. Austin, Tex, Oct 23. 1894. Hon John McDonald, mayor, presiding. Roll call. Present- Aldermen Anderson, Assmann, Jackson, Lawless, North, Roberdeau, Townsend, Warmoth- 8 Absent- Aldermen Dawson, Fischer, Glass, Hancock, Hume, Linn, Nitschke, Platt, Powell, Raymond, Redd, Schneider, Shelley, Tayler- 14 Alderman Anderson moved a call of the council, which was ordered. On motion of Alderman Anderson the council took a recess of 10 minutes. After expiration of recess, the roll was again called, with the following result: Present- Aldermen Anderson, Assmann, Glass, Jackson, Lawless, North, Platt, Roberdeau, Schneider, Shelley, Townsend, Warmoth- 12 Absent- Aldermen Dawson, Fischer, Hancock, Hume, Linn, Nitschke, Powell, Raymond, Redd, Tayler- 10. The call was on motion suspended. The following was read: Austin, Tex, Oct 23, 1894. Mayor's call To the Members of the Board of Aldermen of the City of Austin. Gentlemen- I hereby call a special meeting of the city council of the city of Austin to assemble in the council chamber at the city hall this day, October 23, at 4 o'clock, p.m. for the purpose of receiving and acting upon the report of the committee to prepare an ordinance providing for the management and operation of the waterworks, electric and power plants of the city of Austin, and establishing rules and regulations for the government thereof and fixing rates for service. Also an ordinance providing for the protection of the waterworks and electric light and power plants, grounds and property of the city of Austin and providing penalties for the violation of its provisions. John McDonald, mayor. Austin, Texas, October 23, 1894. 3. P. m. Marshal's return. I hereby certify that the following aldermen have been served with the above call by having it read to each of them in person, viz: Anderson, Assmann, Dawson, Glass, Hancock, Hume, Jackson, Lawless, Linn, North, Platt, Powell, Raymond, Redd, Roberdeau, Schneider, Shelley, Tayler, Townsend, and Warmoth, and that Aldermen Fischer and Nitschke have been served by a true copy having been left at the respective residence of each, they being out of the city. James E. Lucy, City Marshal. W.W. Electric L. & P Alderman North, for the ordinance, finance and water and Power Plants [illegible] light committees, who had been appointed a special ordinance. committee for the purpose of drawing up the ordinance regulating water and light rates, etc, presented an ordinance --- Page break --- entitled "An ordinance providing for the protection of the waterworks and electric light and power plants, grounds and property of the city of Austin and providing penalties for the violation of its provisions." The ordinance was read. W.Ws. Electric L & Power plants. Civil ordinance. Also an ordinance entitled "An ordinance providing for the management and operation of the waterworks, electric light and power plants of the city of Austin, and establishing rules and regulations for the government thereof and fixing rates for service". The ordinance was read the first time, during which Aldermen Paylor and Powell entered the council and answered to their names. Alderman North moved that the council adjourn until Friday afternoon at 4.30 o'clock, and that in the mean time the last named ordinance be published in The Statesman. Alderman Glass moved to amend by changing the time from 4.30 o'clock to 8 o'clock. Alderman North accepted the amendment and the motion prevailed. Milton Morris? Present- Aldermen Anderson, Glass, Hancock, Nitschke, Platt, Raymond, Roberdeau, Schneider, Taylor, Townsend; 10 Absent- Aldermen Assmann, Dawson, Fischer, Hume, Jackson, Lawless, Linn, North, Powell, Redd, Shelley, Warmoth; 12. Alderman Anderson moved that the council take a recess of five minutes. Carried. After expiration of recess the roll was again called with the following results: Present- Aldermen Anderson, Glass, Hancock, Nitschke, North, Platt, Raymond, Roberdeau, Schneider, Taylor, Townsend; 11. Absent- Aldermen Assmann, Dawson, Fischer, Hume, Jackson, Lawless, Linn, Powell, Redd, Shelley, Warmoth; 11. Alderman Fischer entered the council and answered to his name. Alderman Nitschke moved that the council stand adjourned until the next regular meeting and the motion was adopted by the following vote: Yeas- Aldermen Fischer, Glass, Hancock, Nitschke, North, Platt, Raymond, Roberdeau, Schneider, Townsend; 10 Nays- Aldermen Anderson, Taylor; 2. Milton Morris, City Clerk.
