Austin Approves Water System and Equipment Funding

Water & Light System Funding: City council approved a $5,000 appropriation to cover operating expenses for Austin's water and light system.

Manufacturing Equipment Purchase: Council passed a $2,293.48 payment to Norwich Belt Manufacturing Company for industrial belts needed for city operations.

Low Attendance: Only 16 of 22 aldermen were present after a recess, with several members out of the city requiring alternative service of the meeting notice.

Emergency Session Called: The mayor convened this special meeting specifically to vote on two pending appropriations that were already in the legislative process.

228 Minutes of a Called Meeting of the City Council. Austin, Texas, August 21, 1895. Hon Henry A Linn, president of the Board of Aldermen, presiding. Roll call. Present- Aldermen Glascock, Linn, Roberdeau, Schneider, Shelley-5 Absent- Aldermen Anderson, Assmann, Fischer, Glass, Goeth, Haynes, Hume, Jackson, Lawless, Nitschke, Platt, Powell, Redd, Taylor, Tobin, Townsend, Warmoth-17. Alderman Schneider moved a call of the council, which was duly seconded and adopted. Alderman Schneider then moved that the council take a recess of 10 minutes and the motion prevailed. After expiration of recess the roll was again called, resulting as follows: Present- Aldermen Anderson, Assmann, Fischer, Glass, Glascock, Goeth, Haynes, Lawless, Linn, Nitschke, Powell, Redd, Roberdeau, Schneider, Shelley, Tobin- 16 Absent- Aldermen Hume, Jackson, Platt, Taylor, Townsend, Warmoth- 6 The following call of the council and certificate thereon were then read: 4 p.m Austin, Texas, August 21 1895 Marshal's I hereby certify that the following named aldermen certificate have been served with the following call by having it read of service. to each of them in person, viz: Aldermen Assmann, Anderson, Fischer, Glass, Glascock, Goeth, Haynes, Hume, Lawless, Linn, Nitschke, Platt, Powell, Redd, Roberdeau, Schneider, Shelley, Tobin, Townsend and Warmoth and that Aldermen Jackson and Taylor have been served by a true copy having been left at each of their respective places of business, they being out of the city James E. To the members of the Board of Aldermen of the city of to pass certain Austin, Texas appropriations Gentlemen- I hereby call a special meeting of the city Council of the City of Austin to assemble in the council chamber at the city hall on this day, August 21, 1895, at 5 o'clock p.m. for the purpose of taking such action as the city council may deem proper to take on ordinances now on second reading, entitled as follows: "An ordinance appropriating the sum of five thousand dollars for the purpose of paying expenses of the water and light system of the city of Austin." "An ordinance appropriating the sum of $2293.48 for the purpose of paying Norwich Bolt Manufacturing Company for belts. The rules were on motion suspended and the ordinance was read a third time and on motion passed by the following vote: Yeas Aldermen Anderson, Ammann, Fischer, Glass, Glascock, Gaeth, Haynes, Lawless, Linn, Nitschke, Powell, Redd, Roberdeau, Schneider, Shelley, Tobin - 16. $2293.42 Norwich Belt Mfg Co Aldermen Gaeth, for the committee on finance, to whom was referred an ordinance entitled An ordinance appropriating the sum of $2293.48 for the purpose of paying Norwich Belt Manufacturing Company for belts, submitted a report thereon, recommending the passage of the same. The ordinance was read a second time and then a third, under suspension of the rules and passed by the following vote: Yeas Aldermen Anderson, Ammann, Fischer, Glass, Glascock, Gaeth, Haynes, Lawless, Linn, Nitschke, Powell, Redd, Roberdeau, Schneider, Shelley, Tobin - 16.
