Roll Call showed Alderman Beatley, Blass, Cochran, Hausner, Nitschke, Platt, Powell, Strumph, Taylor, Townsend, [illegible] Were present and Jilton. Alderman Overton, Bredan, Hed, Schineider, and Schmider 5. The presiding roll of the Council was then read. Mayor’s Office, Austin, Tex, Sept. 4, 1896.
Mayori Call for Special Meeting A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas, is hereby convened, be assembled in the City Council Chamber, on this day (Wednesday), September 9th 1896, at 10 o'clock A.M., for the purpose of considering: First-The ordinance now pending, entitled "An ordinance providing for the management and operation of the Water Works, Electric Light and Power Plants of the City of Austin; giving rates for service and repealing any ordinances in conflict herewith!" Second-An ordinance now pending entitled, "An ordinance providing for the protection of the Water Works, Electric Light and Sewer Plants, grounds and property of the City of Austin, and providing penalties for the violation of its provisions." Third-An ordinance now pending entitled, "An ordinance also providing the sum of $10.00 for the purpose of paying approved accounts." Fourth-The report of the special committee appointed to consider the proposition of Wm. S. Hughes to compromise a suit against the City, and to act upon same. Lewis Hancock, Mayor. I hereby certify that the following Aldermen have been served with the above call by having it read to each of them in person, viz: Beatty, Cochran, Blass, Cochran, Hausner, (Nitschke), Platt, Powell, Stedd, Townsend, Dessengrou, Schneider, Shirley, Stumpf, Taylor, have each been served by a true copy thereof, at their usual places of business, and also that Aldermen Horton and Simms at their last known place of residence in the City of Austin, Texas. Elec. & Plant, grounds, etc. The Mayor laid before the Council an ordinance & fixing penalties. entitled "An ordinance for the protection of the Water Works, Electric Light and Power Plant," grounds and property, of the City of Austin, and providing penalties for the violation of its provisions."" The ordinance was read the second time and on motion of Alderman Boath the rules were suspended and the ordinance placed upon its third reading and final passage by the following vote: Yeas Aldermen Beaty, Fischer, Smith, Haynes, Lawless, Nitschnik, Platt, Powell, Redd, Robertson, Rosengren, Shelley, Stumpf, Taylor, Tobin, Townsend and Zilker, 18. Nays None. The ordinance was then read a third time and passed. The ordinance was read a second time. Alderman Glass entered the Council Chamber. Alderman Boath moved to suspend the rules and place the ordinance on its third reading and final passage; which motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas Aldermen Beaty, Fischer, Glass, Boath, Haynes, Lawless, Nitschnik, Platt, Powell, Redd, Robertson, Rosengren, Shelley, Stumpf, Taylor, Tobin, Townsend and Zilker. 18. Nays None. The ordinance was then read a third time and passed by the following vote: Yeas Aldermen Beaty, Fischer, Glass, Boath, Haynes, Lawless, Nitschnik, Platt, Powell, Redd, Robertson, Rosengren, Shelley, Stumpf, Taylor, Tobin, Townsend and Zilker. 18.
