Minutes of a Regular Meeting of New City Council Austin, Texas Dec. 19th 1898. Present C. V. E. [illegible] Mayor, presiding. Roll Called. Present: Aldermen, Brady, Calvin, Brady, Sphr. Fischer, Snoog, Haynes, Norton, Sulm, Waddos, McLemore, Miller, Norris, Nitschur, Powell, Rudd, Rosengren, Sealby, Stumif, Wagner and [illegible] N. Absent Alderman Crocker. 1. Minutes approved. On motion, the minutes were approved as recorded without reading. Utility Franchises &c. Ald. & Ed. Robinson By Alderman McLemore, Petition of Edward Robinson, to place Wagon Scales on to place Wagon Scales corner of San Marcos and East 6th St. The petition was read, and on motion was granted. Alderman Crocker entered the Council Chamber. Reports of Standing Committees Fin. Comte. report on Alderman Morris for the Finance Committee, presented a report stating that resolution to purchase the Committee in pursuance of a resolution of the Council had purchased Ten 10 M. W&L Bonds for Thousand Water and Light Bonds of the City, for the Sinking Fund, said Bonds Sinking Fund. being Nos. 1 to 10 both numbers inclusive, and now presented the said bonds Bonds presented to the Council, for such action as they might take with them, the said bonds being from 1st to incl. having been cancelled. Alderman Haynes moved that a Committee be appointed to take charge of the bonds Committee & ap- and that the word "cancelled" be written across the face of said bonds, and that pointed to write the they be filed with the City Treasurer, which motion prevailed, and the Mayor word Cancelled on Bonds appointed Aldermen Haynes, Morris and Miller, said Committee. Fin. Comte. report on Alderman Morris for the Finance Committee reported that in accordance with an Ord. to purchase Ordinance passed Aug. [illegible] 1898, they had purchased for the Sinking Fund on bonds Bonds for Sinking Fund issued prior to May 1st 1890, $6000. 5% Water and Light bonds of the City which the Bonds issued prior bonds were now in the hands of the City Treasurer to the credit of said fund. to May 1st 1890 The report of the Committee was adopted. Fin. Comte. report on Alderman Morris for the Finance Committee to whom was referred the petition pet. of L.A. Coquard of L.A. Coquard asking the Council to exchange 10 good Water and Light Bonds of to exchange certain the City, for 10 of said Bonds that were slightly damaged, he paying all expenses Bonds that had of said exchange, presented a report, stating that they could see no objection to become damaged making the exchange, and therefore recommended that the Mayor, City Treasurer, City Clerk and Finance Committee, be requested to make said exchange and that they make a full report to the Council of said exchange, giving the numbers of bonds exchanged, that a complete record of the transaction shall appear in the minutes of the Council, provided the bonds proposed to be exchanged by Coquard, are not so mutilated that same cannot be fully identified. The report of the Committee was adopted by the following vote: Yes: Aldermen [illegible], Brady, [illegible], Sfkr, Fischer, Haynes, McLemore, Miller, Norris, [illegible], [illegible], Rudd, Rosenggren, Sealby, Stumpf, Wagner and [illegible] in Nays: Aldermen [illegible], [illegible], [illegible] and [illegible]. 15 Alderman Crocker, [illegible] the Finance Committee, to whom was referred Nov. The following communication was read: --- Page break --- Austin, Texas, Dec. 15th 1898. Invitation from E.A. Hoe Fire Co No. 4 to City Council and your Ball, January 2nd Mr. Geo. O. Johnson City Clerk, City of Austin: Dear Sir:- I am authorized by East Austin Hose Fire Co, No 4, to extend a cordial invitation to the Honorable City Officials and Board of Aldermen, to attend The Annual "New Years" Ball, to be given at the Hall, on the evening of January 2nd 1899. Very respectfully, W. F. Kuhn, Sec'ty. E. A. H. Co. No 4. On motion the invitation was accepted, and the Clerk was instructed to notify the Co., that the Council would attend as a body. Communication from W&L Commission regarding $8000. paid over to City Treasurer for of W&L Sinking Fund Also in regard to Sprinkling certain Streets Referred to Special Comt of 5 The Mayor laid before the Council, a communication from the Water and Light Commission, stating that they had paid over to the City Treasurer, for account of the Interest and Sinking Fund, Water and Light Bonds, the sum of $8000.00 Also a communication suggesting to the Council the propriety of taking bids and awarding contracts, for the next fiscal year, for sprinkling certain Streets of the City, named in the communication. Alderman Nitschke moved that the communication be referred to a special committee of 5, which motion prevailed, and the Mayor appointed as the Committee, Aldermen Nitschke Haynes, Crooner, Belvin and Zilker. A petition from a Committee on the part of the Alliance Germans Alliance the Cotton Yard, asking the Council to lease them Block No — for a period of Block known as five years, upon the terms and conditions as now exist for the same purpose Alliance Cotton Yard. as it is now being used. Alderman Haynes moved that action on the petition be deferred until the next regular meeting, and that the City Attorney, be instructed to investigate and report the condition of said property. Alderman Crooner moved to immediately condemn the matter, lost by the following vote: Yeas. Aldermen Belvin, Crooner, Fehr, Fischer, Titschke and Rosengrew 6 Nays.
