Present. Aldermen. Bealy, Brady, Brooker, Fehr, Greer, Haynes, Huhn, Maddox, McLemere, Miller, Morris, Nitschke, Powell, Rosengren, Shelley, Stumpff and Walter, 17. Absent. Aldermen. Belvin, Fischer, Horton, Redd [illegible] Ziller, 5.
The following Call for a Special Meeting of the Council was read Austin Texas, Jannuary 23rd 1899
Call A Special meeting of the City Council of the City of Austin is hereby called to meet at the City Hall at 8:30 O'clock P.M. this 23rd day of January 1899 for the purpose of considering what action if any, it is proper to take in reference to the Bill introduced into the Legislature of Texas, proposing the adop-tion of a new Charter for the City of Austin.

Res° in regard to Alderman Morris offered the following resolution. New Charter & Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin. Naming Comm° That Aldermen, Powell, Nitschke, Greer, Rosengren, Stumpff, Brooker, and Redd, and such Citizens as they may select to act with them, and they are hereby appointed to take such steps as they may deem proper to prevent the passage of any Charter for the City of Austin by the sitting Legislature, which is not in conf-ormity with the wishes of the People, nor promotive of the interest of said City, and especially to demand in the name of the citizenship of Austin, that any Charter so adopted shall before it goes into operation be submitted for ratification to a vote of the qualified electors of Austin. Alderman Haynes moved the adoption of the resolution which motion prevailed by the following Vote: Yeas.
