Minutes of a Regular Meeting of the City Council of Austin Texas July 20th 1899. Hon H.M. Maddox, President of the Council, Presiding. Roll Called Present, Aldermen Brady, Crooker, Grove, Haynes, Horton, Huhn, Maddox, McLemone, Miller, Morris, Nitschkte, Powell, Redd, Rosengren, Shelley, Stumpff, and Walke. 17. Absent: Aldermen Beaty, Belvin, Fehr, Fischer and Ziller. 5. Minutes adopted On Motion the minutes were approved, as recorded, without reading. Reports of Standing Committees Rept of Police Comm" Alderman Powell for the Police Committee, to whom was referred the reports of the City Marshal, for the month of January 1899, presented a report stating that, the reports have been examined and found correct. Report adopted, and ordered filed. Alderman Fehr entered the Council Chamber. Alderman Shelley moved that Mr Jno. B. Taylor, be allowed to withdraw his petition (asking payment of claim for household goods destroyed) for correction, which motion prevailed. New Business Ord. Appt $180" to build Bridge By Alderman Morris An Ordinance appropriating the sum of $180" Mo to place on 2d to build a bridge at the intersection of N. 2d & Congress Avenue. reading Lost. The Ordinance was read the first time and a motion made to suspend the rules and place the Ordinance on the second reading, which motion was lost by the following Vote: Yeas Aldermen Brady, Crooker, Fehr, Haynes, Horton, Huhn, Maddox, McLemone, Morris, Powell, Rosengren, Stumpff. 12. Nays Aldermen Grove, Miller, Nitschkte, Redd, Shelley & Walke 6. Aldermen Beaty and Belvin entered the Council Chamber. Ord. Appt $1600" for Stow Culvert. By Alderman Powell an Ordinance appropriating the sum of $1600." Mo to place on 2d to build a stone arch Culvert or steel bridge on N. 6th & Nueces Sts reading Lost over little shoal Creek. The ordinance was read, the first time, and a motion made to suspend the rules, and place the ordinance, on its second reading, which motion was lost by the following Vote: Yeas, Aldermen, Belvin, Crooker, Haynes, Horton, Huhn, Maddox, McLemone, Miller, Morris, Nitschkte, Powell, Rosengren, & Stumpff. 13. Nays Aldermen Beaty, Brady, Fehr, Grove, Redd, Shelley, and Walke. 7. Ord. Appt $1520" for Hose Wagons Hose By Alderman Stumpff, an: Ordinance appropriating the sum of $1520" Mo 1 & 2 to purchase Hose wagons for Washington Hose Co No1, and East Austin Passed. Hose Co. No 2, and for 1000 feet of Fire Hose. The ordinance was passed under suspension of the rules by the following Vote: Yeas Aldermen Beaty, Belvin, Brady, Crooker, Fehr, Fischer, Grove, Haynes, Horton, Huhn, Maddox, McLemone, Miller, Morris, Nilschkte, Powell, Redd, Rosengren, Shelley, Stumpff and Walke. 21. Nays None. Ord. Appt $550" Reimburse Hose By Alderman Stumpff, An Ordinance appropriating the sum of $550 " Co No 5 & 6 to reimburse South Austin Hose Co. No 6, and North Austin Hose Co No 6, Passed. for amount paid out by them for Hose wagons. The Ordinance was passed under suspension of the rules by the following Vote:

Ord. Appg $900 By Alderman Stumiff, An Ordinance appropriating the sum of $900 for Sal + Reld to pay the salary of driver of North Austin Hose Co No 6. and for food Hose Co No 6. and repairs for said Company. The Ordinance was read first time amended to read and on motion the rule was suspended, and the Ordinance placed for $750 per upon its second reading by the following Vote: passed as amended Yeas, Aldermen, Beaty, Belvin, Brady, Crocths, Fehl, Haynes, Huhn, Maddox, McLenord, Miller, Morris, Powell, Ridd, Rosingreu, Shelley, Stumiff, Walther and Zilter. 15. Nays. Aldermen, Hischer, Grove, Horton, and Nitschke. 4. The Ordinance was read the second time, Alderman Morris moved to amend the Ordinance by striking out $900 wherever it occurs in the Ordinance and inserting in lieu thereof $750, and to amend the Caption and Sec. 1. of the same, by adding to each the words "for the month of February 1899". The amendments were adopted and the Ordinance as amended was passed under a suspension of the rule by the following Vote: Yeas, Aldermen, Beaty, Belvin, Brady, Crocths, Fehl, Hischer, Grove, Haynes, Horton, Huhn, Maddox, McLenord, Miller, Morris, Nitschke, Powell, Ridd, Rosingreu, Stelly, Stumiff, Walther and Zilter. 22. Nays None.
