Minutes of a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Austin held May 01, 1899. Hon Jno. D. Z.W. Call, Mayor Presiding Roll Called Present Aldermen Dunham Glass Morris Martinez Nolen and Stumpf 6 Absent Alderman Fischer 1 On motion the minutes of the last Meeting were approved as recorded without reading Memorials, petitions etc W.J.Johnson By Alderman Glass. Petition of W.J.Johnson asking the council to Pound fees- refund to him pound fees paid out. On motion the petition returned was granted ald Fischer On motion of Alderman Stumpf Alderman Fischer was excused excused from attendance at this session of the Council, on account of sickness in his family- Reports of The Mayor laid before the Council the reports of the City Officers for the City officers 4/1/99 month of April 1899, which were on motion referred to their appropriate Committees without reading- The following is a synopsis of the reports- By the Assessor and Collector To Collections as follows. An ordinance appropriating the sum of $300.00 driving Sanity for the purpose of building and repairing Ruts, Harness Dept and wagon for the Sanitary Dept of the City of Austin The ordinance was read the first time and on motion the rule was suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading by the following Vale Yeas Aldermen Dunham Glass Morris Mortimer Nolen & Stumpff 6 Nays None. The ordinance was then read the second time. Alderman Stumpff moved to amend by adding $16 00 to repair furniture in the Assessor & Collectors office, adopted Alderman Morris moved to amend by adding $5 00 to refund to W J Johnson for pound fees which motion prevailed The ordinance as amended was then passed under suspension of the rule by the following Vote Yeas Aldermen Dunham Glass Morris Mortimer Nolen & Stumpff 6 Nays None. Ord Levying By Alderman Dunham An ordinance levying Taxes for the year 1899 Taxes for 1899 The ordinance was read the first time, and the rule suspended and the ordinance read a second time by the following Vote Yeas Aldermen Dunham Glass Morris Mortimer Nolen & Stumpff 6 Nays None. Alderman Dunham moved to amend the ordinance by filling in the first blank the word "Ninety" thus making the levy of taxes for general purposes Ninety Cents on the $100. 00 The amendment was adopted. Alderman Dunham moved to amend by inserting in the second blank the words one hundred, thus making the amount levied to pay interest and Sinking fund Water Light bonds One dollar on the $100. 00 The Amendment was adopted. Alderman Dunham moved amend by inserting in the third blank the word "Seven thus making the levy for interest and sinking fund on refunding bonds seven cents in the $100. 00 The Amendment was adopted. Alderman Dunham moved to further amend by inserting in the fourth blank the words "Thirty three and one third" thus making the amount levied for Public Free School purposes Thirty three and one third cents on the $100. 00 Valuation The amendment was adopted, and the ordinance as amended was then passed under suspension of the rule by the following Vote Yeas Aldermen Dunham Glass Morris Mortimer Nolen & Stumpff 6 Nays None The Mayor laid before the Council the bonds of the City Assessor and Bonds of Collector and the City Clerk, which were read and referred to the A. & C. 1 Finance Committee and the City Attorney. [illegible] Alderman Stumpff for the Finance Committee to whom were referred [illegible] the bonds of the City Assessor & Collector & the City Clerk presented a Verbal report recommending that the bonds be accepted. The report of the Committee was adopted.
