195 Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Austin Austin Texas August 22d 1899 Hon Jno. A. Mcball Mayor presiding Roll Called Present Aldermen Dunham, Glass, Morris, Mortimer Nolen and Strumpf 6 Absent Alderman Fischer 1 On motion of Alderman Morris the minutes were approved as recorded without reading Petitions Memorials etc Pet of Citizens By Alderman Nolen, Petition of Citizens of South Austin to South Austin to have street opened from the Fredericksburg road to Congress open st from Avenue in South Austin. The petition was read and on Fredericksburg road motion was referred to the Street Committee To Congress Avenue The Mayor laid before the Council an invitation from East Austin Stone Co. Ind. Asking the Mayor and City Invitation to attend Council to attend an entertainment to be given by that entertainment East Company on Thursday evening August 31st 1899. Austin Stone Co On Motion the invitation was accepted with thanks and the City Clerk directed to notify the Company of the action of the Council Reports of Standing Committees Market Com Alderman Nolen for the Market Committee to whom granted further was referred the complaint of J.C. Goldbaum regarding time. Pet J.C. Hay wagons standing in front of his residence etc, stated Goldbaum that the Committee was not ready to make their report and asked for further time, which request was Granted Prop to close Alderman Strumpf for the Finance Committee bonds to Sinking stated for the information of the Council that Mr fund. 10% [illegible] W.B. Wortham Cashier of the First National Bank, had submitted to the Committee a proposition to furnish the City $125,000. 5% Water Light Bonds for the sinking fund at 1.06½ + interest. No action was taken on the report. Alderman Fischer entered the Council Chamber. Pet J.J. McNeal Alderman Fischer for the Street Committee to whom et al 10 hon St was referred the petitions of Sid McNeal et al, To him Pet C.N. Pracs to open Street in South Austin, C.N. Pracs et al to open alley open alley in Block 35 of the City, Chas Johnson to open Street Pet C Johnson to near the McDenned brickyard in West Austin and open st R.E. Blacksher et al to condemn and pay for ground for Pet Blacksher et al Alley in East Austin on Robertson Hill, Presented reports To open alley in the several cases recommending that the petitions be not granted. The several reports of the Committee were adopted. Reports of Special Committee Sp. Comt of Com Alderman Dunham for the Special Committee to whom was to Codification referred the resolution looking to the Codification and printing Report of Com --- Page break --- 196 of the City ordinances presented a report submitting the bid of Von Buerman & Co for printing same and an estimate of the size of the Ordination the report and bid was referred to the Finance Committee The Mayor then laid before the Council the following Message Austin Texas Aug 21 800 To the Honorable City Council Gentlemen, Mayor's Message I have the honor to present Bd of Equalization for Your Consideration the names of Knot Robinson Jr and A. J. Ziker to be members of the Board of Equalization of the City of Austin Respectfully Jno. A. McCall - Mayor Alderman Stumpf moved that the Council proceed to ballot upon the nominations made by the Mayor which Motion prevailed. Alderman Glass moved that the Mayor appoint Tellers which motion prevailed A J Ziker The Mayor appointed Aldermen Fischer and Dunham as confirmed Tellers.
