Austin Roads Convention & City Infrastructure Updates

Roads & Streets Convention Funding: The council approved $150 in funding for a Good Roads and Street Convention scheduled for December 11-12, 1899, reflecting Austin's interest in improving transportation infrastructure.

Street Drainage & Bridge Work Completed: The Street Committee reported that petitions for draining West 10th Street and building a bridge on 1st Street (Onion Street) had both been successfully completed.

Public Scale Permission Granted: A.S. Noit received approval to install a public scale on Lot 7 Block 2, fronting west on 2nd Street for commercial use.

Board of Equalization Amendment: Council passed an ordinance amending the powers and duties of the Board of Equalization to allow them additional time to complete their work.

Water & Light Commission Nominations: The mayor nominated two members to the Water & Light Commission, though the council voted to refer the nominations to committee for further review rather than confirm them immediately.

224. Regular meeting of the City Council Austin Texas December 04, 1899 Hon Jno. A. Wlsall Mayor presiding Roll Called Present Aldermen Dunham Fischer Glass Morris Mortimer Nalen & Stumpf 7 Absent None. On motion the minutes were approved as recorded by the clerk, without reading Petitions, Memorials etc By Alderman Morris. Petition of A.S. Noit for permission Pet ad. to put in a public scale on Lot 7 Block 2. fronting west Noit to 2nd street. On motion the petition was granted. put in Scales By Alderman Morris. Communication from the Board of Bd of Equiliz Equalization asking additional time in which to complete Final time their work. On motion the request was laid over to come time up with an ordinance on the subject under the head of New business The Mayor laid before the Council a Communication from A.D. James W. A. James Attorney, presenting claims from certain parties Claims for for damages for property lost in fire at the Temporary Capitol [illegible] building. On motion the Communication and claims were referred to the Claims and accounts Committee Pet Woodbridge By Alderman Glass. Petition of A.P. Woodbridge et al asking [illegible] for after an appropriation of $150.00 to be used in the expense of a good expense Roads & Roads and Street Convention to be held in this City Dec 11th 12 [illegible] Convention On motion the petition was laid over to come up with an ordinance on the subject Reports of City Officers The Mayor laid before the Council the reports of the City Reports City Officers for the month of Nov. 1899, which were on motion officers for referred to their appropriate Committees without reading Nov. 99 The Mayor laid before the Council the report of the City Rept City Engineer Engineer upon the Complaint of Mrs. A. Genes, stating inpet Mrs that he had examined the premises and that he Could Genes. find no grounds for the Complaint On Motion the report was ordered filed. Reports of Standing Committees Alderman Fischer for the Street Committee to whom Rep St Com was referred the petitions of Citizens asking that west inpet to have 10th street be drained, and the building a bridge on 1st street drained Onion Street, presented their report, stating that bridge "n the petition had both been Complied with and onion st the work done. The reports were adopted. By Alderman Stumpf an ordinance appropriating the Appr & pay sum of $100.00 & pay approved accounts appd a/cs The ordinance was passed under suspension of the rules by the following Vote Yeas Aldermen Dunham Fischer Glass Morris Mortimer Nolen &Stumpf 7 Nays None The Mayor laid before the Council the bill of the Bill for Water Water & Light Plant of the City for Water & Light furnished Light & City the City to Nov 30 1899, which was on motion referred to the Water & Light Committee The Mayor then laid before the Council the following Special Message Mayors Office Austin Texas Dec 4th 1899 To the Honorable City Council Gentlemen! Mayors Message I have the honor to Nominating nominate Geo Siegel and A.N. Seibrucken to be members W.L. Commis of the Water Light & Power Commission of the City of Austin Respectfully Jno D. McCall Mayor Alderman Morris moved that the nominations be confirmed Alderman Glass moved as a substitute that the nominations be referred to the Water & Light Committee The substitute was adopted by the following Vote Yeas Aldermen Dunham Fischer Glass Mortimer & Nolen 5 Nays Aldermen Morris & Stumpf 2 By alderman Glass An ordinance appropriating the sum Appr $150 of $150.00 to be used in the expense of a Good roads and Expense Roads Street Convention to be held in this City Dec 11th & 12, 1899 Street The ordinance was passed under suspension of the rules by Convention the following Vote Yeas Aldermen Dunham Fischer Glass Morris Mortimer Nolen & Stumpf 7 Nays None The Mayor laid before the Council a communication from the League of American Municipalities, asking the City of Austin to American League become a member of the League.
